A high-altitude concert at Pension Briol

The "Begegnungen Briol" (Briol Encounters) series features chamber music concerts held every summer at Pension Briol, a historic mountain lodge located in the hamlet of Dreikirchen, above the village of Barbiano/Barbian in the autonomous province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol. Among these, the Revensch concert is a highlight: live music on the expansive terrace of Haus Settari, over 1,100 meters above sea level, with views stretching across the Dolomites.

Revensch: Dixieland, Klezmer, and 1920s Chansons

Revensch is a South Tyrolean sextet led by saxophonist, clarinetist, and vocalist Helga Plankensteiner alongside pianist Michael Lösch. The group blends Dixieland, Klezmer, Balkan grooves, and 1920s chansons into original, engaging arrangements, featuring pieces ranging from Brecht and Weill to Chaplin and Marlene Dietrich, alongside their own compositions. The ensemble includes Helga Plankensteiner (saxophone, clarinet, vocals), Paolo Trettel (trumpet), Hannes Mock (trombone), Glauco Benedetti (tuba), Michael Lösch (piano), and Marco Soldà (drums).

An ensemble at home in Alpine festivals

Revensch has performed at numerous festivals from the Alps to the Mediterranean, including the South Tyrol Jazz Festival, Dolomiti Ski Jazz, Lana Meets Jazz, and Trentino in Jazz. Their music, suspended between early American jazz, Eastern European Klezmer tradition, and the vocal flair of 20th-century cabaret, perfectly suits the intimate, informal atmosphere of the Briol concerts, where the audience listens outdoors while enjoying light snacks and a glass of wine.

A unique setting: Haus Settari and Dreikirchen

Pension Briol and the nearby Haus Settari are symbols of South Tyrolean summer mountain holidays. Haus Settari, the family home of Johanna Settari, was restored in 2013 by the architects bergmeisterwolf (Gerd Bergmeister and Michaela Wolf), preserving its early 20th-century spirit and exposed steel structure. The site is accessible only on foot or by jeep taxi service, as there is no paved road: a choice that preserves its tranquility and makes it a timeless destination, nestled among meadows and woods, with the "three churches" hamlet of Dreikirchen nearby.
