Music, reflections, and readings at the Ss. Trinità Auditorium in Quargnento
The Republic Day Concert is one of the most anticipated events in the cultural calendar of Quargnento, a small town in the Province of Alessandria, nestled in the heart of Piedmont between the Monferrato hills and the Alessandria plains. Every year, coinciding with the June 2nd anniversary, the Orchestra Classica di Alessandria chooses the intimate Ss. Trinità Auditorium for an evening that weaves together great music and civic reflection on the founding values of the Italian Republic.
The event's format is a well-established tradition: the Soloists of the Orchestra Classica di Alessandria perform a refined chamber music program, while thematic readings—often dedicated to the Italian Constitution and the principles of freedom, equality, and democracy—are interspersed between the musical pieces. It is a continuous dialogue between sound and word, designed to convey the profound meaning of the day to the audience, far beyond mere celebration.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the concert is the participation of students from the "Silvio Pellico" School in Quargnento, who curate the thematic readings. This involvement of the younger generation makes the event a moment of shared civic education, where the community gathers around music and historical memory.
The Quargnento concert is part of the "Orchestra in provincia…e non solo!" series, a project through which the Orchestra Classica di Alessandria brings chamber and symphonic music to large and small towns across the Alessandria territory and other areas of Piedmont. It is a deliberate choice: to bring classical music to smaller villages and towns, showcasing historical venues like the Ss. Trinità Auditorium.
Traditionally free to attend and supported by local institutions and foundations, the Republic Day Concert is also a convivial occasion: at the end of the evening, the local Pro Loco often welcomes the audience with light refreshments. For those visiting this part of Piedmont in early June, it is a precious opportunity to discover an authentic event, far from the mainstream circuits but of high artistic quality.
The 2026 edition of the Republic Day Concert took place on Monday, June 1st, 2026, at 9:00 PM at the Ss. Trinità Auditorium in Quargnento, in the Province of Alessandria. The evening was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Italian Constitution, weaving together classical music and civic reflection as per tradition.
The event was promoted by the mayor of Quargnento, Luigi Benzi, with the support of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, as part of the "Orchestra in provincia…e non solo!" series.
