A festival of good humor and positivity in the heart of the Marsica region

The Recrià Smile Festival is a cultural and wellness event held every summer in Trasacco, a historic village in the Fucino area of L'Aquila province, in the heart of the Abruzzo Marsica. Launched in 2023 as a project co-funded by the Abruzzo Region, the event aims to promote the universal value of the smile and create a positive, inclusive environment that brings people of all ages together through recreational, artistic, and cultural activities.
The festival transforms Piazza Matteotti and the surrounding historic center into a large open-air stage. The program alternates moments of pure entertainment with spaces for reflection: comedy shows and cabaret nights with nationally renowned artists, street parades, creative workshops for children, group games, and social activities. There are also seminars and workshops on physical and mental well-being, positive psychology, and the therapeutic properties of smiling, which give the festival its unique identity compared to many other summer events in the region.
Recrià is designed to be truly intergenerational: alongside evening shows for the general public, the program includes baby dance, bubble shows, face painting, water games, and entertainment for children, as well as meetings and activities dedicated to seniors and families. A highlight is the Good Humor Walk, a community stroll that visits the village's most iconic spots, including the Sanctuary of Candelecchia.
The municipality of Trasacco overlooks the ancient Fucino basin, a land rich in history and Abruzzese folk traditions. The choice to host a festival dedicated to smiles and positivity is part of a local development strategy that emphasizes social cohesion and hospitality. The event is organized by the Arcobaleno Soc. Coop. Sociale ONLUS in collaboration with the Municipality of Trasacco, the Abruzzo Region, and numerous local associations and volunteers, under the artistic direction of Dr. Donato Neri.
All festival activities are free of charge, in keeping with the community-focused and inclusive spirit of the event, which aims to engage residents and visitors in a shared experience of joy and well-being.
