Concerts of the Ravenna Festival at the Municipal Theatre and Palazzo San Giacomo in Russi
For several seasons, the Ravenna Festival, one of Italy's most important live music and performance events promoted by the Fondazione Ravenna Manifestazioni, has been expanding its program beyond the provincial capital to reach the municipalities in the region. Among these is Russi, a town in the lower Romagna area of the Province of Ravenna, in Emilia-Romagna, which hosts some festival events at its Municipal Theatre and the evocative Palazzo San Giacomo, a historic residence of the Rasponi counts set in a large 18th-century park.
As part of the XXXVII edition of the Ravenna Festival, titled "Nacque al mondo un sole" (A Sun Was Born into the World) and dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi, Russi welcomes three events of very different characters. It begins on May 28 at the Municipal Theatre with a recital by pianist Filippo Gorini, a native of Russi, in what is a true return to his homeland.
The heart of the summer then moves to the park of Palazzo San Giacomo with two consecutive evenings: on June 20, the great Italian rap party Rap-Union led by DJ Shocca, and on June 21, the swing sounds of the Glenn Miller Orchestra directed by Uli Plettendorff with the program "Swing Forever".
The strength of this distributed festival lies in its variety: a classical music recital featuring works by Michelle Agnes Magalhรฃes and Robert Schumann, an evening bringing together different generations and styles of Italian hip-hop on stage, and finally, the great swing repertoire revisited by the famous orchestra named after Glenn Miller. For both evenings at Palazzo San Giacomo, food stalls with local specialties are planned.
The open-air stage at Palazzo San Giacomo is one of the most beloved venues for the Ravenna Festival outside the city: the large park and the architecture of the Rasponi residence offer a setting of rare charm for summer concerts. The festival's presence in Russi is part of the broader "Russi Estate" program, which enlivens the Municipality with music, outdoor cinema, exhibitions, and picnics throughout the summer season.
The Ravenna Festival's presence in Russi in 2026 is spread across three evenings, as part of the XXXVII edition "Nacque al mondo un sole." On May 28, the Municipal Theatre hosts a recital by pianist Filippo Gorini, a native of Russi, who is in residence in the area until June 20 with masterclasses and lessons. The two main evenings take place in the park of Palazzo San Giacomo: on June 20 with the Italian rap party Rap-Union, and on June 21 with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
For the evenings at Palazzo San Giacomo, food stalls with local specialties are available starting a few hours before the concert.
Russi is located a few kilometers from Ravenna, reachable by train (Russi station on the Faenza-Ravenna line) or by car. Palazzo San Giacomo is located on Via Carrarone Rasponi, just outside the town center; the Municipal Theatre is in the center of Russi.
Tickets can be purchased online at ravennafestival.org, through the Vivaticket circuit, and at the Ticket Office of the Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna (tel. +39 0544 249244, [email protected]).
For the evenings at Palazzo San Giacomo, it is advisable to arrive early: the food stalls with local products open a few hours before the concert, allowing you to enjoy dinner in the park before the show.
