Classic car regularity rally through the Biellese hills, based in Cossato
The Rally Valli Biellesi is one of the most anticipated automotive events of the spring in the town of Cossato, in the Province of Biella, in north-eastern Piedmont. This is not a speed rally, but a regularity rally for classic cars: crews do not race against the clock for the fastest time, but must navigate road sections while maintaining pre-established times and average speeds with maximum precision. The winner is the one who accumulates the smallest margin of error—a challenge of concentration, experience, and synergy between driver and navigator.
The event is a valid round of the Italian Historic Car Regularity Championship (CIREAS) promoted by ACI Sport, and is organized by the Veglio 4x4 racing team in collaboration with the Automobile Club Biella. The race program includes about sixty precision trials for the classic category and a reduced number for the tourist category, winding along the scenic roads of the Biellese valleys. The final section, the so-called power stage, takes place in the center of Cossato, in front of the public.
The charm of the event lies primarily in the models competing: you can admire authentic four-wheeled jewels that span the history of Italian and European motoring. Among the most admired vehicles are:
Surrounding the race, the Cossato Motor Village comes to life—a widespread exhibition area throughout the town that turns the weekend into a true festival of motors. It hosts displays of modern cars, private collections of historic vehicles, and themed exhibitions dedicated to the local rally tradition, such as the one on the historic Rally Lana. It is the moment when the event opens up to the city and casual enthusiasts, even those not competing.
Now in its early editions based in Cossato, the Rally Valli Biellesi is rooted in the long-standing automotive passion of the Biellese region, a land that has given birth to legendary competitions. Technical and sporting checks take place in town halls, the start and finish animate the central Piazza Elvo Tempia, and the awards ceremony concludes the day at the Teatro Comunale. An event that combines sport, automotive culture, and the promotion of the Piedmontese landscape.
The 2026 edition, the fourth round of the Italian Historic Car Regularity Championship, recorded 139 registered crews: 71 in the classic race and 68 in the tourist category. Sporting checks were held on Friday, April 10, at the Villa Ranzoni Event Hall (from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM). On Saturday, April 11, the start took place at 10:00 AM from the Piazza Elvo Tempia platform, with the return starting from 4:30 PM and the awards ceremony at the Teatro Comunale at 6:30 PM. Also competing were the 2025 winners, Sicilians Gulotta and Messina in a 1955 Fiat 600, and numerous vintage cars including a 1927 Lancia Lambda, the oldest at the start.
Cossato is located a few kilometers from Biella, along the provincial road connecting the regional capital to the Valle Sessera. By car, it can be reached from the A4 motorway (Carisio or Santhià exits, then the expressway to Biella) or from the A26. By train, the reference station is Cossato, on the Biella–Novara line.
Checks take place on Friday afternoon, while the race itself, the power stage, and the Cossato Motor Village bring Saturday to life. Access to the exhibition areas and the public in the town center is free of charge. For the updated calendar and the list of entrants, it is recommended to consult the ACI Sport (CIREAS) and Automobile Club Biella channels.
