The car race held beneath the lights of Scorrano, the world capital of illuminations
The Rally delle Luminarie was established in 2026 as a new Salento car race, hosted by the town of Scorrano in the province of Lecce, known worldwide as the capital of illuminations. The concept is as simple as it is evocative: racing engines while the town prepares for the Santa Domenica festivities, with the streets already adorned by the monumental light displays that draw thousands of visitors every year. The result is an event that weaves together sport, tradition, and entertainment in a uniquely Apulian atmosphere.
The event brings together four distinct competitions over the same weekend, catering to enthusiasts of every era and category:
The organization is managed by the Automobile Club Lecce, the Municipality of Scorrano, and the Scuderia Motorsport Scorrano, with the race fully integrated into the national ACI Sport calendar.
The race is not confined to a single town: it traverses several municipalities in central Salento, touching Maglie, Zollino, Martano, Cannole, Bagnolo del Salento, Muro Leccese, San Cassiano, and Botrugno, with the service park set up at the municipal stadium in Maglie. The special stages wind through olive groves and country lanes, giving drivers the chance to race through one of Puglia's most characteristic landscapes.
What makes the Rally delle Luminarie different from any other race is its setting. Scorrano lives all year round for its Santa Domenica patronal festival and the extraordinary illuminations that have earned it the title of world capital of the sector. Racing in this scenario means driving through a town in celebration, with the historic center, the Palazzo Ducale Guarini, and the Museum of Illuminations serving as a scenic backdrop for the awards ceremonies and side events.
The Rally delle Luminarie has joined the Puglia Region's Grandi Eventi program and has a clear international vocation: as early as the first edition, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Croatian Santa Domenica Rally Show for twinning and exchanges between drivers. Alongside the competition, there are guided tours of the historic center, the opening of the Museum of Illuminations, and charity initiatives, confirming that this event aims to be much more than just a simple car race.
The first edition of the Rally delle Luminarie brought competition engines among the famous lights of Scorrano (Lecce) for the first time. Six special stages in total, derived from two tracks repeated three times, tested the crews along the roads of central Salento. Out of 28 cars starting in the modern race, 17 crossed the finish line. Alongside the main competition, the Rally Storico delle Luminarie, the Salento Historic Regularity Rally, and the Classic Car Gathering took place, with briefings and awards ceremonies hosted in the historic center and at the Museum of Illuminations.
Scorrano is located in lower Salento, in the province of Lecce. By car, it can be reached via the SS 275 or the network of provincial roads connecting Maglie and Lecce. The nearest train station is in Maglie, on the Ferrovie del Sud Est line, a few kilometers from the center. The reference airports are Brindisi-Casale and Bari-Palese.
The special stages take place along the roads between Scorrano, Zollino, Martano, and neighboring towns; the service park is set up at the Maglie municipal stadium. The awards ceremony and most side events take place in the historic center of Scorrano, at the Museum of Illuminations and Piazza Municipio.
Spectators should arrive early and follow the organizers' instructions regarding authorized viewing points along the special stages. The period coincides with the preparations for the Santa Domenica festival: an excellent opportunity to admire the illuminations of Scorrano.
