About Ragusa Music Festival

For the European Music Day, Ragusa transforms into a vast open-air orchestra. The Music Festival brings dozens of free concerts to the squares and streets of the historic center, spanning from the Baroque beauty of Ragusa Ibla to Ragusa Superiore and the waterfront of Marina di Ragusa. Brass bands, singer-songwriters, swing, Sicilian folk, rock, and world music enliven the city for three days, from afternoon until late at night, in a widespread event that unites residents and tourists through live music in public spaces.

Music takes over the streets of Ragusa

Every year, on the occasion of the European Music Day on June 21st, the Music Festival turns Ragusa into one large urban orchestra. Promoted by the Sicilia Event association with the patronage of the Municipality of Ragusa, the event brings dozens of free concerts to the city's public spaces, from the Marina di Ragusa seafront to the Baroque heart of Ragusa Ibla, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The concept is simple yet powerful: to have music played everywhere, for free, in squares, on staircases, in courtyards, and along the streets of the center. For three days, from the afternoon until late at night, the city becomes a sprawling stage where professional musicians and amateurs share the same space with the audience.

Three stages, three souls of Ragusa

The Music Festival in Ragusa is traditionally divided into three moments, each linked to a different area of the city, in the province of Ragusa, in south-eastern Sicily:

  • Ragusa Superiore — the upper, modern part of the city, with concerts winding from Piazza San Giovanni along Corso Italia, Via Roma, and Piazza Poste.
  • Ragusa Ibla — the ancient Baroque district, where music resonates between Piazza Duomo, Corso XXV Aprile, and the alleys descending towards the Giardini Iblei.
  • Marina di Ragusa — the coastal hamlet, featuring concerts overlooking the sea and the iconic collective gathering of guitars on the promenade.

An event for everyone

Among the most beloved projects is «100 Guitars 1000 Voices», an open invitation for guitarists of all levels to play together in a group, symbolizing the participatory spirit of the Festival. The program ranges across diverse genres — brass bands, singer-songwriter music, pop, rock, jazz, Sicilian folk, swing, Argentine tango, and world music — with over thirty concerts and hundreds of artists involved.

The event is organized in collaboration with local natural shopping centers, including Antica Ibla and I Tre Ponti, and with the Pro Loco Mazzarelli for the Marina di Ragusa leg. Admission to all events is completely free.

Why it's worth attending

The Music Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover Ragusa Ibla in a festive atmosphere, strolling through Baroque architecture while music accompanies every corner. It is an event that highlights the deep bond between the city and its cultural vocation, and it is a staple of the calendar of events that enliven the Iblean summer.
