The great pink walk against breast cancer in the heart of Bari
Race for the Cure is the flagship event for breast cancer awareness in Italy, promoted by Susan G. Komen Italia through its regional committees. In Bari, the event is organized by the Puglia Committee and has become one of the most anticipated highlights of the city's calendar: three days of sport, prevention, and solidarity that transform Piazza della Libertà and the city's seafront into a vibrant, pink-themed open-air stage.
The heart of the event is the Health Village, set up for three days in Piazza della Libertà. Here, numerous medical services and screenings are offered free of charge: mammograms, breast and thyroid ultrasounds, dermatological and gynecological exams, as well as nutritional, rheumatological, and onco-fertility consultations. A genetic oncology counseling corner is also available for those with a personal or family history of cancer. It is a concrete opportunity to promote a culture of prevention, which remains the most effective weapon against breast cancer.
The most anticipated moment is the great pink walk on Sunday: a 2 km non-competitive walk open to everyone, alongside a 5 km run and a 10 km competitive race winding through the city center and along the Bari seafront. Leading the way are the Women in Pink—survivors who have faced or are currently facing the disease—the true emotional core of the event. Every year, the event raises funds for the prevention and support projects of the Komen Puglia Committee.
Beyond the races, the Bari program offers sports and recreational activities for children and teenagers, show-cooking sessions, parades, and performances by local schools, as well as water sports on the seafront and even pet therapy sessions. The Race for the Cure in Bari is much more than a running event: it is a grand community celebration that unites the Municipality of Bari, the Metropolitan City of Bari, and the entire Puglia region around a message of health, inclusion, and support. With over twenty thousand participants each year, it stands as one of the largest charity events in Southern Italy.
The twentieth edition of the Race for the Cure in Bari brought Piazza della Libertà to life from May 15 to 17, 2026. The Health Village, inaugurated on Friday the 15th at 3:00 PM, offered three days of free screenings and consultations. The event concluded on Sunday, May 17, with the pink walk and running races along the seafront, confirming the Race as one of the largest charity events in Puglia.
The full three-day program is available on the official website raceforthecure.it.
