About Stramaxima

Stramaxima is a historic 10-kilometer road race held annually through the streets of Casamassima, in the province of Bari, in the heart of Puglia. A FIDAL-sanctioned national race beloved by runners across the region, it attracts hundreds of competitive athletes and recreational running enthusiasts each year. Paired with the Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival, it combines sport, tradition, and gastronomy into one great local celebration.

Stramaxima, the historic race of Casamassima

The Stramaxima is one of the longest-running and most cherished road races in the province of Bari. Every year, through the streets and squares of Casamassima, this 10-kilometer road race draws hundreds of athletes from across Puglia and neighboring regions, turning the town center into a grand stage for outdoor sports.

Organized by the ASD Amatori Atletica Casamassima, the Stramaxima is a national race recognized by FIDAL (the Italian Athletics Federation) and has been running for over thirty years: in 2025, it reached its thirty-sixth edition, a testament to a tradition deeply rooted in the sporting and social fabric of this Murgia town.

A route in the heart of the town

The course follows a town loop with the start and finish line in Piazza Aldo Moro, the beating heart of Casamassima. After an initial two-kilometer lap that brings athletes back to the square, runners tackle the remainder of the circuit to complete the full 10 kilometers. The race winds through the town's streets and scenic spots, offering spectators the chance to follow the athletes closely and cheer them on along the entire route.

Alongside the competitive race, reserved for FIDAL members and sports promotion organizations, the event also features a non-competitive fun run/walk, open to everyone: an opportunity designed for families, walkers, and casual enthusiasts who want to experience the festive atmosphere without the pressure of the clock.

Sport, tradition, and gastronomy

The Stramaxima is more than just a sporting competition: for several years, the race has been paired with the Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival, one of the most anticipated food and wine events in Casamassima, organized by the Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality. Race Sunday thus intertwines with the flavors of Murgia tradition, offering participants and the public a weekend dedicated to sport, taste, and conviviality.

Also linked to the "E. Manzari" Trophy, the Stramaxima is a staple of the late-summer Puglian running calendar and a moment of great popular participation for the entire community of Casamassima, in the heart of Puglia.

Stramaxima — edition 2026

The 37th edition of the Stramaxima is scheduled for Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Casamassima. The historic 10-kilometer road race, a FIDAL national event, returns to color the town's streets with hundreds of competitive and recreational runners, paired as usual with the Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival.

Stramaxima 2026: the 37th edition

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Casamassima will host the thirty-seventh edition of the Stramaxima, the historic 10-kilometer road race organized by the ASD Amatori Atletica Casamassima. The event confirms its place among the key late-summer running appointments in the province of Bari and all of Puglia.

As per tradition, the race takes place on a town circuit with the start and finish in Piazza Aldo Moro and is part of the weekend of the Stuffed Rabbit and Potato Focaccia Festival, combining sport and local gastronomy. The race is also valid for the "E. Manzari" Trophy.
