Fifteen evenings of bruschetta and Tuscan cuisine in the heart of Quiesa, a village in Massarosa
The Quiesa Bruschetta Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in the Versilia hinterland. It takes place in Quiesa, a hillside village in the municipality of Massarosa, in the province of Lucca, at the foot of the hills separating Lake Massaciuccoli from the Versilia plain. For over thirty years, every late August, the community gathers to celebrate a simple, popular dish like bruschetta, turning it into a true collective ritual that lasts for two full weeks.
The heart of the festival is, naturally, the bruschetta, prepared in various ways that showcase Tuscan peasant cooking. The most popular is the one with fresh tomato, scented with basil and generously drizzled with local extra virgin olive oil. Alongside this, you will find the classic olive oil bruschetta, simple and essential, and the one with chicken liver, the famous Tuscan pรขtรฉ with its bold flavor. There is also no shortage of many traditional Tuscan dishes, from pasta courses to grilled meats, completing a menu designed to satisfy everyone.
The event is organized by the Misericordia and the Fratres blood donors of Quiesa, two associations deeply rooted in the local area. The work of the volunteers, both in the kitchen and serving at the tables, gives the festival an authentic and charitable character: the proceeds support the associations' community activities. It is this village spirit, built on hospitality and volunteer commitment, that makes the festival more than just a simple food event.
The event is held at Parco Giuseppe del Soldato, adjacent to the Daniele Bianchi sports field, an open-air space that comfortably accommodates food stands and tables under the stars. The kitchens open every evening at 7:45 PM and, after dinner, the area comes alive with live music and entertainment, in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere that is the true soul of Tuscan festivals.
For those spending the summer on the Versilia coast or visiting the Lake Massaciuccoli area, the Quiesa Bruschetta Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover the most authentic side of Tuscany, far from the tourist circuits. Admission is free and the atmosphere is that of a large village banquet, where you can eat well for little money and let yourself be won over by the simplicity of a dish that tells the story of the region's entire gastronomic culture.
The 2026 edition of the Quiesa Bruschetta Festival is confirmed for August 16 to 30, 2026, at Parco Giuseppe del Soldato, next to the Daniele Bianchi sports field, in the village of Quiesa in Massarosa (LU).
