A day dedicated to the Valsesian puncetto lace in Fobello
In the heart of Valsesia, at the foot of Monte Rosa, the small town of Fobello (Vercelli province, Piedmont) preserves one of the most refined textile traditions in the Alps: Valsesian puncetto. Puncetto Day — Al dì dal Puncet was created to celebrate and pass on this ancient lace, crafted exclusively with a needle using a knotted stitch technique, without any preparatory drawing. It is a festive day that attracts enthusiasts, collectors, and curious visitors from across the region.
Puncetto is a lace worked stitch by stitch, traditionally white, used to embellish aprons, bonnets, shawls, and the famous traditional costumes of the valley. In Fobello, this art is particularly vibrant: the village is home to the Puncetto Museum and the Carestia Tirozzo Museum at Campelli, which house historic lace, costumes, and testaments to Valsesian culture.
Throughout Sunday, the streets and squares of the historic center, particularly along Via Lancia and the theater area, come alive with a large market exhibition dedicated to puncetto and local crafts. Visitors can watch the lacemakers at work, admire displays of antique and contemporary lace, and meet with associations and collectors.
Accompanying the day is FOodBELLO, a street food and food truck festival that brings local specialties and street cuisine to Fobello: from tapulone to tripe, from Florentine steak to more indulgent treats, perfect for a convivial break between visits.
Puncetto Day is much more than a festival; it is a way to immerse yourself in the identity of Fobello and Valsesia, discovering a rare craft deeply rooted in the women of the mountains. For those who love authentic craftsmanship, history, and alpine villages, it is a precious opportunity, organized with passion by the Fobello Pro Loco.
On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Fobello celebrates the fifth edition of Puncetto Day. The historic center will be filled with stalls and exhibitions dedicated to Valsesian puncetto and mountain crafts.
