The Carnival of Porto Azzurro on the Island of Elba, featuring masquerade parades, music, and circus performances.
The Puffo Azzurro Carnival is the most colorful winter event in Porto Azzurro, a charming seaside village on the Island of Elba, in the province of Livorno (Tuscany). For several Sundays in February, the town's streets and squares come alive with masks, confetti, and music, turning the center into a vast open-air stage designed especially for families and children.
The heart of the event is the masked procession, which departs each day from Piazzale De Santis to reach Piazza Matteotti, overlooking the harbor. Alongside the parades, there is live music, entertainment for children, a spectacular circus parade with fantasy characters, and numerous food stalls offering sweet and savory specialties. The result is a participatory, free village festival that attracts both residents and tourists outside the summer season.
The Puffo Azzurro Carnival is a deeply identity-driven event for Porto Azzurro: it is organized by the Municipality of Porto Azzurro in collaboration with local associations, including Avis Porto Azzurro, the Sole e Luna Association, and Diversamente Sani. This network of volunteers and local entities creates an event with a strong community spirit, where the joy of Carnival blends with the desire to be together.
Overlooking one of the most scenic bays on Elba, Porto Azzurro is famous for its promenade, its artisan shops, and the imposing Forte San Giacomo. In a traditionally quieter season, the Carnival offers the perfect opportunity to discover the village in a festive guise, experiencing one of the traditions most cherished by the Elban community.
The 2026 Puffo Azzurro Carnival in Porto Azzurro was held over three Sundays: February 1, 8, and 15. Each event followed the same proven formula, with the masked procession meeting at Piazzale De Santis and parading toward Piazza Matteotti.
The edition was promoted by the Municipality of Porto Azzurro together with Avis Porto Azzurro, the Sole e Luna Association, and Diversamente Sani, confirming the community-focused nature of the festival.
