Three days of livestock farming, tradition, and festivities in the village of Verampio, Valle Antigorio
The Provincial Brown and Simmental Cattle Show takes place in the village of Verampio, in the municipality of Crodo, at the gateway to the Antigorio-Formazza Valley in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (Piedmont). It is one of the most important industry events in the Ossola region: for an entire weekend, the spacious exhibition area of Verampio transforms into a large open-air ring where provincial farmers bring their best livestock for expert judging.
The absolute stars are the two dairy breeds that best represent the region's mountain farming: the Brown breed, robust and perfectly adapted to high-altitude pastures, and the Simmental, prized for its dual-purpose milk and meat production. Heifers and cows parade in the ring under the watchful eyes of the judges until the champions are crowned.
The event, organized by ARAP Piemonte in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Crodo, goes far beyond pure livestock competition. Alongside the cattle show, there is a goat exhibition, the Young Handlers Competition highlighting the next generation of farmers, and the spectacular greasy pole climbing contest, which draws teams and large crowds.
The Verampio event is, first and foremost, a community festival for the Ossola people, where the technical side of livestock farming intertwines with conviviality and popular tradition. The dining area, managed by local organizations, remains open until late, offering the authentic flavors of the valley, with alpine cheeses as the protagonists alongside other typical products of the Antigorio area. Evenings filled with music and entertainment round out a program that brings together different generations of farmers and visitors.
For those wanting to get up close to the mountain agriculture of Northern Piedmont, the Crodo Cattle Show is a precious opportunity: a free, authentic event immersed in the landscape of Valle Antigorio, just a few kilometers from the famous Terme di Crodo.
The 6th edition of the Provincial Cattle Show brought the village of Verampio to life from May 1st to 3rd, 2026, during a weekend dedicated to nature, tradition, and fun. The event served as an important moment for promoting the livestock excellence of the Antigorio-Formazza Valley and acted as a meeting point for breeders, industry professionals, and the public.
The dining area, managed by the Pro Loco and local entities, remained open until late, accompanied by music and entertainment. The local press defined the three-day event as "a success that exceeded expectations."
