About Pumpkin Festival
An Autumn Feast Overlooking the Lake
In Agra, a tiny municipality in the Province of Varese suspended like a balcony over Lake Maggiore, the Pumpkin and Chestnut Festival is the event that celebrates autumn. A long-standing tradition that every year, on the third Sunday in October, fills the historic centre with the scents, flavours, and colours of the season.
Seasonal Flavours
The absolute protagonists of the festival are pumpkin and chestnuts, featured in the food stalls:
- Pumpkin tortelli and pumpkin risotto
- Roasted chestnuts
- Autumn specialities and local products
Alongside the food, a large market with over a hundred stalls of crafts and local products invades the village streets.
Courtyards, Giant Pumpkins, and Art
The Agra festival has a scenic soul: the historic courtyards of the village open up and come alive with artists and painters, while giant pumpkins and themed competitions—from Miss Pumpkin to decorative arrangements—add a touch of fantasy to the celebration. Organised by Pro Loco Agra together with the Alpini and local associations, the event is a perfect example of how a small village can transform a festival into an event capable of attracting visitors from all over the Varese area and the nearby Verbano.
Pumpkin Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition, the 43rd, confirms the tradition of Agra's autumn festival, scheduled for the third Sunday in October (with a street food preview on Saturday evening). The historic centre hosts food stalls featuring pumpkin and chestnuts, the market with over a hundred stalls, and the unmissable attractions: giant pumpkins, competitions, and historic courtyards enlivened by artists and painters.

- Saturday evening — preview with street food festival
- Sunday — food stalls with pumpkin tortelli and risotto, roasted chestnuts
- Market with over 100 stalls of crafts and local products
- Giant pumpkins, Miss Pumpkin competition, and decorative arrangements
- Open historic courtyards with artists and painters
