Shrove Tuesday in the square, with masks, music, and games in the heart of the Roero
In the events calendar of Priocca, a small town in the province of Cuneo nestled among the rolling hills of the Roero, the Carnival holds a special place. Every year, on Shrove Tuesday, the town square transforms into a festive gathering place where children, families, and locals come together to celebrate one of the most cherished winter traditions in Piedmont.
Organized by the Municipality of Priocca, the Carnival is a well-established tradition, eagerly awaited by the community year after year. It is not a large-scale spectacle like the famous historic carnivals of Piedmont, but rather an authentic village festival where a sense of community and the joy of being together are the true stars. It is a children's Carnival, filled with confetti, costumes, and laughter.
The festivities kick off in the early afternoon in the square. The program features masks, music, games, and entertainment hosted by the Rdr team, who engage the little ones with activities specifically designed for them. Children parade in their most imaginative costumes, while music accompanies the entire afternoon, creating the quintessential Carnival atmosphere.
One of the most anticipated moments is the afternoon snack: during the day, a treat is offered to all those present—a gesture of hospitality that makes the celebration even warmer and more familiar. It is the perfect opportunity for neighbors to gather, enjoy something sweet, and extend the pleasure of a day spent together.
Experiencing the Carnival in Priocca also means discovering an authentic corner of the Roero, a land of fine wines, cultivated hills, and quiet villages just a few kilometers from Alba. The Carnival is an excellent opportunity to visit this town, away from the more crowded tourist circuits, and to breathe in the genuine rhythm of Piedmontese village life.
The Priocca Carnival takes place on Shrove Tuesday, starting in the early afternoon (from 2:00 PM).
The event is held in the main square of Priocca (CN), in the heart of the Roero.
By car: Priocca is accessible via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Roero exit) and the provincial road connecting Alba and Asti. By train: the nearest stations are Alba or Asti, from where you can continue by car or bus.
Admission is free. The afternoon snack is offered to all attendees.
