Two days of music, tradition, and local gastronomy in Lido Valderice
The Primo Maggio Fest is one of the most anticipated spring events in Valderice, a town in the province of Trapani overlooking the gulf in Sicily. Every year, around Labor Day, the coastal district of Lido Valderice, in the Cortigliolo area, transforms into a large open-air village where music, tradition, and gastronomy meet for two days of free festivities open to everyone.
Promoted by Pro Loco Valderice APS with the patronage of the Municipality of Valderice, the Sicilian Region, and the Free Municipal Consortium of Trapani, the festival offers a rich and varied program. Emerging bands and local groups take turns on stage, while the evenings conclude with major dance parties dedicated to the music of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The beating heart of the event is the "Valderice and its flavors" food area, a showcase of local gastronomic excellence, featuring live demonstrations dedicated to busiata, the famous traditional hand-worked pasta from Trapani.
The Primo Maggio Fest is designed for the whole family: creative workshops, games, and entertainment are provided for children, while young aspiring singers can test themselves in the "Lasciatemi Cantare" singing contest. Traditional highlights also include the "Gran Premio del mortaio", a fun competition linked to local cuisine, and various sporting activities. For several editions, the event has been hosted by journalist and speaker Claudia Parrinello.
Admission to the Primo Maggio Fest is completely free, with some activities requiring optional registration. The event, also supported by trade unions CGIL, CISL, and UIL, represents a moment of togetherness that enhances the sense of community, local traditions, and the gastronomic heritage of Valderice, all in a picturesque setting just a few steps from the sea.
The 2026 edition was held in Lido Valderice (Cortigliolo) on May 1st and 2nd, with activities from 10:00 AM until late at night. The first day featured creative workshops for children, the food area, "Busiata Live" demonstrations by master chef Peppe Giuffrè, the "Gran Premio del mortaio", a running race, and concerts by emerging bands. The second day showcased the "Valderice and its flavors" food area, the "Lasciatemi Cantare" singing contest for young talent, and a grand finale with a dance party dedicated to 70s, 80s, and 90s music with DJ sets by Laco La Commare and Ninny B. The event was hosted by Claudia Parrinello.
