About Primiero Dolomiti Marathon

The Primiero Dolomiti Marathon is a major trail running festival that brings the Primiero Valley in eastern Trentino to life every July, set at the foot of the Pale di San Martino. Four race distances (42 km, 26 km, 16 km, and 6.5 km) wind through the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Natural Park, with staggered starts and a shared finish line in Fiera di Primiero. This international event attracts thousands of runners from across the globe to one of the most spectacular UNESCO World Heritage Dolomite landscapes.

A trail marathon in the heart of the Dolomites

The Primiero Dolomiti Marathon is a mountain running event that transforms the Primiero Valley into a grand celebration of outdoor sports every July. Organized by U.S. Primiero ASD, the race takes place in the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), within the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Natural Park and at the foot of the iconic Pale di San Martino, the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

Four courses for every ability

The multi-distance format is a key highlight of the event, allowing every participant to choose the challenge that best suits their fitness level, from experienced trail runners to families with children.

  • 42 km – Marathon: the flagship race, starting from Villa Welsperg in Val Canali and finishing in Fiera di Primiero.
  • 26 km – San Martino Trail: starting from San Martino di Castrozza, amidst the most iconic views of the Pale range.
  • 16 km – Vanoi Trail: starting from Zortea, in the Lozen and Vanoi Valleys.
  • 6.5 km – Family Trail: a non-competitive route designed for families and enthusiasts, with start and finish in Fiera di Primiero.

An international gathering

Over the years, the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon has become an internationally renowned event, drawing thousands of athletes from dozens of nations. The combination of technical trails, challenging elevation gains, and breathtaking panoramas places it among the great classics of Dolomite trail running. The event is enhanced by the Primiero Dolomiti Village, featuring an expo, refreshment areas, and post-race celebrations in the center of Fiera di Primiero, where all finish lines converge.

Sport meets the territory

More than just a race, the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon is an opportunity to discover the Primiero community, its valleys—Canali, Vanoi, and Lozen—and the natural heritage of the Paneveggio Park. Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, the event blends high-level competition with mountain hospitality in one of the most precious natural settings in the entire Alpine range.
