The spring celebration in the city where the Almond Blossom Festival was born
The Primavera Narese – Almond Blossom Festival is the folk event that every year, in March, heralds the arrival of the new season in Naro, a refined baroque town perched on the hills of the Agrigento hinterland, in the province of Agrigento and the heart of Sicily. For an entire day, the historic center transforms into an open-air stage, brought to life by traditional costumes, decorated Sicilian carts, and music and dance from all over the world.
The history of this festival dates back to the 1930s. It was in Naro, at the initiative of Count Alfonso Gaetani, that the first Almond Blossom Festival was born, dedicated to the blooming of the almond trees that turn the Sicilian countryside white every spring. A few years later, the event was moved to Agrigento, where it grew into the famous international folklore festival known today. The Primavera Narese represents the local continuation of that original tradition, which is why it often includes the name that recalls its origins.
The heart of the day is the parade that winds through the streets and squares of the center: from the gathering in Piazza Roma, the procession travels along Viale Umberto and Via Vittorio Emanuele to Piazza Garibaldi, featuring festively decorated Sicilian carts, groups in traditional attire, and foreign delegations. In recent years, the festival has hosted folk groups from as far away as Colombia, Poland, and Malaysia, who share their native dances, music, and costumes with the public alongside local groups and schools.
The event culminates in the grand final show, featuring performances by international and Sicilian groups and the highly anticipated crowning of Miss Primavera, who is traditionally awarded a dedicated trophy. It is the highlight of the event, drawing many visitors and families to Naro, often right after the conclusion of the major Almond Blossom Festival in Agrigento.
Known as the città fulgentissima (most radiant city), Naro preserves a heritage of churches, noble palaces, and baroque vistas that provide the perfect backdrop for the festival. Visiting Naro during the Primavera Narese means combining the discovery of a village with great historical charm with the joyful, popular atmosphere of one of the most cherished spring traditions of the Municipality of Naro and the entire Sicilian Region.
The 2026 Primavera Narese brought back the usual festive atmosphere to Naro, with the historic center animated by parades, music, and traditional dances. This year, the event once again featured a parade of decorated Sicilian carts along the town's streets, performances by local and international folk groups, and the grand finale with the election of Miss Primavera. The event was held just after the major Almond Blossom Festival in Agrigento, of which Naro claims the origins.
A single day of celebration with a gathering and parade in the historic center (Piazza Roma, Viale Umberto, Via Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Garibaldi), performances by international and Sicilian folk groups, and a final show with the election of Miss Primavera.
