Prettauer Adventszauber — Kasern Advent

Advent at the end of the Ahrntal Valley

The Prettauer Adventszauber, known as Kasern Advent, is one of the most evocative Christmas events in South Tyrol. It takes place in Kasern, the last village at the end of the Ahrntal Valley, in the Municipality of Prettau, in the Province of Bolzano, at an altitude of about 1,600 meters. Here, the mountains, the silence, and the snow create a setting that no city market can match.

A walk among lights and nativity scenes

The heart of the event is an illuminated winter walk that starts from the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park House (Naturparkhaus Kasern) and climbs gently along the path toward the Trinkstein alpine pastures. The route is dotted with a hundred lanterns and lights, with handcrafted nativity scenes placed along the way and Christmas music accompanying visitors' steps on the winter evening.

Open mountain huts and the flavors of the valley

At the end of the walk, the mountain huts and alpine pastures open their doors to welcome hikers with hot drinks, mulled wine, and typical products of the Ahrntal Valley. It is the perfect opportunity to warm up, taste South Tyrolean specialties, and experience the cozy atmosphere of a mountain Advent in a protected and pristine natural setting.

An authentic Advent

Unlike the large markets in Brixen, Meran, or Bolzano, the Kasern Advent focuses entirely on authenticity and connection with nature. It is an event designed for families, hikers, and travelers seeking the true Christmas soul of South Tyrol, amidst tradition, spirituality, and alpine landscapes. The event is organized by the Tourismusverein Ahrntal tourist association and is held every year during the Advent season.

How to get there

Kasern can be reached by car by driving up the entire Ahrntal Valley to the valley floor, with public parking available at the Nature Park House. Given the mountain location and evening attendance, the use of public transport (bus line 450 that runs up the valley) is recommended.
