The cultural award of Montefeltro that since 1981 rewards literature, environment, and knowledge
The Premio Nazionale di Cultura Frontino-Montefeltro is one of the most established cultural institutions in the Marche region. It was founded in 1981 from the meeting of two symbolic figures: Carlo Bo, Rector of the University of Urbino, and Antonio Mariani, then mayor of Frontino. The idea was as ambitious as it was unconventional: to demonstrate that a national-level cultural initiative could originate from a peripheral reality, in a small village in the Montefeltro hinterland, far from major publishing and media circuits.
More than forty years later, that bet has been won. Over time, the Award has attracted leading writers, journalists, scientists, and publishing houses, becoming a highly anticipated event on the Italian cultural scene and a source of pride for the Municipality of Frontino and the entire Province of Pesaro and Urbino.
The award is divided into several sections, which over time have defined a broad and multidisciplinary profile. Among those characterizing recent editions:
The award ceremony traditionally takes place at the Montefiorentino Convent, a charming Franciscan complex nestled in the green Montefeltro hills, at the foot of Mount Carpegna. It is a place that enhances the intimate and solemn dimension of the Award, where the presentation of the accolades is accompanied by speeches, readings, and moments of reflection.
The juries for the Award have historically been chaired by the Magnificent Rector of the University of Urbino "Carlo Bo", testifying to the deep connection between the university of Urbino and the event initiated by Carlo Bo himself. This academic grounding ensures the Award's authority and continuity, edition after edition.
Frontino is one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy: visiting it on the day of the Award means combining a prestigious cultural event with the discovery of one of the most evocative places in the inland Marche. An opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Montefeltro, amidst history, landscape, and a culture that, in these parts, is truly at home.
The forty-fifth edition of the Premio Nazionale di Cultura Frontino-Montefeltro will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in the usual setting of the Montefiorentino Convent, in Frontino (PU). The event is organized by the Municipal Administration of Frontino with the patronage of the University of Urbino "Carlo Bo" and is supported within the framework of the Agreement for Cohesion of the Marche Region 2021-2027.
For the 2026 edition, the Municipality has published the official notices concerning the "Culture of Montefeltro" section and the "Antonio Mariani Award for School Experimentation" section. The other historical sections of the Award โ Literature as Life, Environment, Human Diversity, and Personality โ are awarded by their respective juries, chaired by the Rector of the University of Urbino.
The complete list of the 2026 winners will be announced closer to the ceremony: the detailed program for the day will be published on the official website premiofrontino.it and on the Municipality of Frontino's channels.
The detailed program and the list of winners for the XLV edition will be announced in the weeks preceding the ceremony, on the official website premiofrontino.it and on the Municipality of Frontino's channels.
