A reenactment in the heart of Cadore
The Praemium Sancti Martini is the grand medieval historical reenactment of Vigo di Cadore, in the province of Belluno. Set in the year 1345, it brings to life the atmosphere of late medieval Cadore, when the villages of the valley were linked by alliances and rivalries. For the occasion, the historic centre dresses up for a festival with encampments, markets, and costumed participants.
The Palio di San Martino between five villages
The heart of the event is the Palio di San Martino, a village competition contested between the hamlets of Vigo, Laggio, Pelòs, Lozzo, and Lorenzago di Cadore. The challenge between the communities makes the reenactment a moment of strong collective identity, in which each village fields its own groups and participants.
Parades, costumes, and ancient crafts
The reenactment involves numerous thematic groups: guards, archers, drummers, artisans and commoners, nobles and ladies. The costume parades animate the village streets, accompanied by the sound of drums and bagpipes, while artisans showcase ancient crafts. The event is curated by the Associazione Praemium Sancti Martini, which keeps its tradition alive in the Cadore region.
Praemium Sancti Martini — edition 2026
The Praemium Sancti Martini is expected for the first weekend of September 2026 in the historic centre of Vigo di Cadore. The reenactment, set in 1345, features costume parades, encampments, a medieval market, and the Palio di San Martino between the five villages of the valley.
