Three days of Italian progressive rock in Porretta Terme
Porretta Prog Legacy is a musical review entirely dedicated to progressive rock, hosted in the charming Rufus Thomas Park in Porretta Terme, a hamlet of the Municipality of Alto Reno Terme, in the Province of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna). Born to continue the great tradition of Italian prog, the festival brings together historic bands, international groups, and new emerging formations every summer in a lineup that blends memory and research.
The formula is now well-established: three days of concerts, each with a major headliner accompanied by three young progressive bands alternating on stage. The festival is organized by APS Alchemica (Alchemica Music Club) with AFM Bologna, local organizations deeply rooted in the area's music scene. The review aims to pass on the genre's heritage to new generations, offering space to emerging artists alongside the protagonists who have made the history of progressive rock.
Alongside the evening program, Porretta Prog Legacy offers a rich program of educational and recreational activities during the day: meetings, seminars, and conferences on the world of prog, themed workshops, and in-depth sessions with musicians, as well as services for those who choose to experience the festival fully, such as the swimming pool and beach volleyball in the park area. A themed market dedicated to vinyl records, memorabilia, and independent productions completes the experience.
Porretta Terme has been known for music for decades: the historic Porretta Soul Festival also takes place here, and the park itself is named after the legendary Rufus Thomas. Nestled in the greenery of the upper Reno valley, the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines offer an ideal natural backdrop for an outdoor event, not far from both Bologna and Florence. The festival contributes to keeping the musical identity of the territory alive and bringing an audience of enthusiasts from all over Italy to the heart of the Apennines.
With its specialized yet open and welcoming approach, Porretta Prog Legacy has quickly established itself as a reference event for progressive rock in Emilia-Romagna. An opportunity to rediscover live classics of the genre and discover tomorrow's promises, in a climate of sharing that is an integral part of the festival's spirit.
