About Porchetta Festival

Every year, during the Pentecost festivities, Rignano Flaminio celebrates its most beloved event: the Porchetta Festival. In Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, food stalls serve freshly roasted porchetta and traditional flavors from the Roman Tuscia region, while the program features traditional games, workshops for children, flag-wavers, and free evening concerts. An uninterrupted tradition for over half a century, it is the most important event in the municipal calendar.

A tradition spanning over fifty years

The Porchetta Festival in Rignano Flaminio, located in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital (Lazio), is the most significant event in the town's calendar. Established in the 1970s and reaching its 53rd edition in 2026 without interruption, the festival takes place every year during the Pentecost weekend, transforming the historic center into a grand village fair, with its beating heart in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele.

The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Rignano Flaminio, with the support of the municipal administration and the Lazio Region. Admission to the festival and all performances is free.

Porchetta, the absolute star

The signature dish is, of course, porchetta—deboned pork seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, and rosemary, then slow-roasted in the oven. This specialty is a true gastronomic identity in northern Lazio, between the Tiber Valley and the Tuscia region. The food stalls and refreshment points remain open all day, pairing the porchetta with typical local products:

  • Sandwiches with freshly sliced porchetta
  • Cold cuts, cheeses, and olive oil from the Flaminio area
  • Traditional rustic first courses
  • Wines from the Colli Cimini and the Roman countryside
  • Homemade desserts and wine-infused cookies

Traditional games, workshops, and families

The festival is about more than just food. The daytime program revives traditional Pentecost games—sack races, card games, foosball, burraco and chess tournaments with demonstrations on a giant chessboard—and offers scientific workshops, magic shows, bicycle stunt performances, and creative cooking activities for children. It is a festival designed for families, where grandparents and children gather in the same square.

Live music

Every edition brings well-known names from the Italian scene to Rignano Flaminio. In 2026, the stage in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele hosted Premiata Forneria Marconi with their "Doppia traccia" tour and Los Locos; in 2025, Marcello Cirillo with Demo Morselli and the Gemelli di Guidonia performed. Alongside the main concerts, there is space for tribute bands, local folk groups, and the "La Velocissima" band, whose parade traditionally opens the Saturday afternoon.

A religious celebration before a gastronomic one

The festival is rooted in the Pentecost Feast and the devotion to the Holy Martyrs of the Catacombs, the town's patron saints. The week is marked by an intense religious program, including celebrations and a procession, which precedes and accompanies the main events on Saturday and Sunday. This dual nature—sacred and popular—is what distinguishes the event from a simple food festival and explains its longevity.

Why visit

Rignano Flaminio is just over forty kilometers from Rome and is easily accessible, making the festival an ideal day trip for those wanting to discover the authentic face of the Roman countryside, featuring a medieval village, great food, and a community that has been gathering in the same square for over fifty years.
