Pistoia's half marathon blending sport, historic charm, and solidarity
The Pistoia International Half Marathon is one of Tuscany's most cherished running events and a landmark for road racing enthusiasts in the Pistoia area. Reaching its 37th edition in 2026, the event takes place in the Municipality of Pistoia, the capital of its namesake province, attracting around a thousand participants each year, including competitive athletes, walkers, families, and groups.
The heart of the event is the competitive 21.0975 km half marathon, an international race that also serves as a stage for the UISP Provincial Half Marathon Championship. Alongside the main distance, the day offers several options designed to include everyone:
The meeting point and start are located in the S. Agostino industrial area, at the Confartigianato Imprese Pistoia headquarters on Via Enrico Fermi. From there, the route winds through a city loop that crosses the streets of Pistoia and skirts the historic center, offering runners beautiful glimpses of the Tuscan city. To allow the race to proceed, the affected streets remain closed to traffic during the event hours.
More than just a race, the Pistoia Half Marathon is a community celebration with a strong focus on solidarity, promoted by ANCoS Sport Italia together with Confartigianato, G.P. CAI Pistoia, the Municipality of Pistoia, and the local UISP coordination, under the patronage of CONI. Over the years, the race has championed inclusion, featuring dedicated groups and the volunteers of "I Maratonabili" who accompany wheelchair athletes along the course. It is an event that perfectly captures the spirit of Pistoia and Tuscany: sporting passion, hospitality, and social awareness.
The 2026 edition, the 37th in the event's history, took place on Sunday, March 22, with a gathering from 7:30 AM and the start at 9:30 AM from the S. Agostino industrial area, at the Confartigianato Imprese Pistoia headquarters. Approximately one thousand participants took part in total, including about five hundred competitive athletes in the half marathon and over five hundred walkers, families, and groups in the non-competitive events. The day confirmed the dual nature of the event, balancing high-level competition with social inclusion.
International race valid for the UISP Provincial Half Marathon Championship, featuring a city loop that crosses Pistoia and skirts the historic center. Roads closed from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Among the protagonists of the competitive half marathon, the men's victory went to Kosgei Jacob Kipkorir (1h01'58"), ahead of Luis Intunzinzi (1h02'07"). In the women's field, first place went to Andrea Lucaci (1h20'19"), followed by Michela Robu. The solidarity component was as strong as ever, with a group dedicated to fibromyalgia awareness and the volunteers of "I Maratonabili".
Pistoia is well-connected: by train via the station on the Florence-Lucca-Viareggio line, or by car via the A11 Firenze-Mare motorway (Pistoia exit). The start and finish are in the S. Agostino industrial area, on Via Enrico Fermi, at the Confartigianato headquarters.
Online registration is available via the Endu platform, by email at [email protected], or at affiliated points. Indicative fees for the competitive half marathon: 15 euros until the end of January, 25 euros until the end of February, and 28 euros for late registration (discounts available for UISP members). The fun run costs around 6 euros, with registration possible until the morning of the race.
Bibs and chips can be collected on the Friday and Saturday before the race at the G.P. CAI Pistoia headquarters, at 221 Via di Porta San Marco, or on the morning of the race until shortly before the start.
