The Piossasco Carnival featuring the Asilé and Asilera masks and the parade of allegorical floats
The Piossasco Carnival is the signature festive event of Piossasco, a town nestled at the foot of Mount San Giorgio in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. Promoted by the Pro Loco of Piossasco in partnership with the local council, this popular festival transforms the town's streets and squares every year between late February and March into a vibrant display of colors, confetti, and joy, drawing in families, schools, and local organizations.
At the heart of the festival are the official city masks, Asilé and Asilera, who are ceremonially invested with their roles during a dedicated grand gala each year. They represent Piossasco throughout the carnival season and symbolically lead the festivities, in a ritual that reaffirms the bond between the community and its traditions.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats, which attracts floats and masked groups from neighboring towns. The procession travels through the city center—including Via Torino and Via Pinerolo—accompanied by masked groups from schools and associations and the Piossasco Concert Band, culminating in a final gathering and awards ceremony. In recent years, the Pro Loco has moved the parade back to the afternoon, following several nighttime editions, specifically to make it more accessible for families and children.
The program also includes a Carnival dedicated to children, featuring entertainment, music, sweets, and confetti, as well as masquerade parties that draw participants from many different locations. The Piossasco Carnival thus confirms itself as a moment of togetherness and shared celebration, deeply rooted in the identity of Piossasco and its surrounding territory in the province of Turin.
The 2026 edition of the Piossasco Carnival, organized by the Pro Loco of Piossasco with the Municipality, brought the town in the province of Turin to life between February and March. The highly anticipated allegorical float parade had to contend with bad weather, but the celebration did not stop.
Due to rain forecasts, the allegorical float parade on Sunday, March 15, was canceled: as explained by Mayor Simona Raneri, the groups contacted had reported they could not participate. The Pro Loco nevertheless maintained the festivities in Piazza Europa, with music, sweets, and confetti, to ensure the shared celebration could still take place.
