The carnival float parade on the Piné Plateau
Every winter, the town of Baselga di Pinè, the heart of the plateau of the same name in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, transforms for its Carnival. Known as Piné in Maschera, the event is organized by A.S.D. Dragon Piné and features a grand allegorical float parade as its highlight, drawing crowds of masked participants and costumed groups through the streets.
Handcrafted over the preceding months by local groups, the floats parade through the town center, moving along Corso Roma, Via Marconi, and Via Cesare Battisti before reaching their final destination in Piazzale Costalta. The parade also features floats from neighboring towns, such as Albiano, highlighting the strong bonds between the plateau's communities. The procession is a vibrant display of color, music, and choreography, beloved by families and children alike.
Once the parade concludes, the party continues throughout the afternoon in Piazzale Costalta with music, entertainment, and food stalls. Local associations, including the Alpini group, manage the catering with hot dishes, while mulled wine and tea are available to keep everyone warm. It is a wonderful opportunity to come together for one of the most cherished popular festivals on the Piné Plateau.
Piné in Maschera is part of the rich calendar of Trentino Carnival celebrations and, alongside the nearby Faida Carnival, brings the area's winter season to life. This free, family-friendly event perfectly blends carnival tradition with the vibrant spirit of Baselga di Pinè's local associations.
The 2026 edition of Piné in Maschera was held on Saturday, February 22, 2026, in Baselga di Pinè. The parade, which started from the Lido parking lot, traveled through the town to Piazza Costalta, the hub of the afternoon's festivities.
Six allegorical floats took part in the procession, including one from Albiano, accompanied by dozens of masked participants and costumed groups. Catering was provided by local associations: the Alpini group prepared and served pasta, while mulled wine and hot tea were offered by the Macelleria Franceschi.
