Dialogues, encounters, and memories between the Archaeological Museum and the squares of Pontecagnano Faiano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Pikentia Echoes Festival is a cultural event that the Municipality of Pontecagnano Faiano, in the province of Salerno, dedicates each year to the intersection of literature, music, and local heritage. The heart of the event is the "Etruschi di frontiera" National Archaeological Museum, one of the most significant sites in Campania for understanding the Etruscan presence south of the Sele Plain, complemented by the town's squaresโPiazza Risorgimento, Piazza Sabbato, and Piazza Centolaโas well as the municipal archaeological park.
The title plays with local history: Pikentia is a real place from the area's past, while echoes refers to the reverberations of the words and dialogues shared during the scheduled meetings. This is more than just a rhetorical flourish: almost all events take place literally among the artifacts, and book presentations are preceded by guided tours of the museum.
"Dialogues-Encounters-Memories" is the subtitle chosen by the organizers. The stated goal is to share life stories through literature and music, foster connections, build networks, and highlight a territory rich in history, where memories of the past blend with the emotions of today. For this reason, the calendar is not concentrated into a single weekend but is spread across several moments throughout spring, early summer, and autumn.
Books are the core of the festival. The first edition, in November 2023, brought authors such as Tiziana Ferrario with "La bambina di Odessa," Carmine Pinto with "Il brigante e il generale," and Karina Sainz Borgo with "La custode" to the museum, each evening featuring a dialogue and wine tasting. In subsequent years, the format has solidified: in 2025, the stage welcomed Viola Ardone with "Grande meraviglia," journalist Dino Messina with "Piazzale Loreto. I due volti della Liberazione," and Claudio Martelli with "Il merito, il bisogno e il grande tumulto."
A formula that is highly popular with the public is the guided tour of the museum using the Visual Thinking Strategy method one hour before the meeting: visitors observe the artifacts, discuss them, and then move on to the book. It is the simplest way to help people discover the Etruscan collections, even those who might never have entered an archaeological museum otherwise.
The second soul of the festival is musical and, over the years, has brought prominent names from the Campania and Naples scene to Pontecagnano Faiano: Enzo Avitabile with his "Black Tarantella" project in Piazza Centola and James Senese in Piazza Risorgimento with the album "Chesta nun รจ 'a terra mia," as well as the jazz and funk-infused blues of the Giuseppe Di Muro Blues Project, the singer-songwriter style of Matteo Catalano with Pierangelo Mugavero, and evenings for younger audiences with Tonico & Morfuco, Pubala Selectors, and Patto MC. The concerts are free and accompanied by tastings of local products.
Alongside the main program, an independent offshoot was born: the Fuorifestival, inaugurated in April 2024 with historian Carmine Pinto, who discussed "Il brigante e il generale" at the museum in dialogue with Stefania Cavaliere. The Fuorifestival serves to extend the event beyond the May-June window, with appointments running until November.
The event is promoted by the Department of Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Pontecagnano Faiano, with the support of Scabec and the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Campania Region, the Province of Salerno, and the Dipsum of the University of Salerno, in collaboration with the "Etruschi di frontiera" National Archaeological Museum and local associations.
Pontecagnano Faiano is just a few kilometers from Salerno, at the gateway to the Sele Plain and a stone's throw from the Amalfi Coast and Paestum. The Pikentia Echoes Festival is an opportunity to discover an archaeological museum that tourists almost always skip, while listening to great music in the square without spending a euro: a festival evening here is worth as much as a guided tour, with the added pleasure of mingling with the locals.
At the time of our check, neither the dates nor the program for the new edition of the Pikentia Echoes Festival in Pontecagnano Faiano have been published. The Municipality, which promotes the event through the Department of Culture and Cultural Heritage, has so far released the calendar close to the start date, usually in the weeks immediately preceding it.
Those who wish to plan ahead can keep an eye on the official website of the Municipality of Pontecagnano Faiano and the festival's Facebook page: that is where, in past editions, literary guests, concerts in the squares, and children's workshops have been announced. The historical reference point remains the "Etruschi di frontiera" National Archaeological Museum, the heart of the event since its first edition in 2023.
We do not publish presumed names or dates: as soon as the program is made public by the organizers, this page will be updated with the complete calendar.

Arrive an hour before the literary meetings to participate in the guided tour of the museum. In May and June, the evenings in the square are pleasant, but it is advisable to bring a light sweater: the breeze coming from the sea can be felt after 10 PM.
