The medieval village of Alto Casertano turns pink with music, local flavors, and dance

The Pietravairano Pink Night is the newest summer festival in the municipality of Pietravairano, a small town in the province of Caserta, Campania, nestled at the foot of Mount Caievola. The concept is simple and recognizable: for a few evenings at the end of June, the ancient village is entirely dressed in pink, becoming a grand open-air stage for residents and visitors from neighboring towns. The inspiration is drawn from the famous Pink Night of the Romagna Riviera, here reinterpreted in a local key, amidst stone, arches, and medieval alleys.
The heart of the event is the ancient village, reachable on foot in a few minutes from the main square, Piazza Salvo D'Acquisto. To make travel easier, the organizers provide a shuttle train connecting strategic points of the town to the village, allowing families with children and those less accustomed to steep climbs to enjoy the festival without effort. Pink decorations, lights, and ornaments line the path, while the village squares host various entertainment spots.
The Pink Night program combines three classic ingredients of Campanian summer festivals, established since its first edition:
Participants are encouraged to wear something pink — an outfit, an accessory, or even just a small detail — as the color is intended as a sign of belonging and sharing rather than just a decorative theme.
The event is promoted by the Pink Stone APS association (initially presented as "Pinkstone"), founded in Pietravairano and led by president Ada Rossi. The association aims to bring "freshness, energy, and community moments" to the town, and over time has added other initiatives to the Pink Night, ranging from public green space maintenance to square events dedicated to the town's districts. It is an interesting example of young volunteering taking on the task of building the summer calendar of a small municipality.
Those arriving for the festival will find a town worth visiting even during the day. Pietravairano is known for its Italic temple-theater of the Samnite-Roman era, located on the summit of Mount San Nicola, and for its medieval historic center dominated by the remains of the castle. Surrounding it is the Volturno plain and the Alto Casertano territory, a land of olive groves, vineyards, and dairy products that can be found at the festival stalls.
With its first edition held in June 2025, the Pink Night is still an event in the making: dates and programs are communicated primarily through the organization's social media channels and the local Caserta press. It is therefore worth checking official announcements before traveling, as the evening schedule may change from year to year.
At the moment, no official dates or program have been published for the 2026 edition of the Pietravairano Pink Night. In June 2026, the Pink Stone APS inaugurated its season of events with a different appointment in Piazza Salvo D'Acquisto, announcing that it would be the first of a series of initiatives dedicated to the territory until the end of the year: however, the pink festival in the ancient village has not yet been included in an official calendar.
In the first edition, the event took place at the end of June, over three consecutive evenings, in the medieval village of the Municipality of Pietravairano, in the province of Caserta. Those wishing to participate are invited to follow the organization's social channels and the local Caserta press, where announcements are published a few weeks in advance.
The program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. It will be updated as soon as the Pink Stone APS communicates dates, artists, and the structure of the evenings.
By car: Take the Caianello exit on the A1 Rome-Naples motorway, then follow provincial roads toward Pietravairano (a few kilometers). By train: The reference station is Vairano-Caianello, on the Rome-Cassino-Naples line, a short distance from the town; the final leg must be completed by car or taxi.
The evenings are held in the ancient village and the Piazza Salvo D'Acquisto area. During the event, a shuttle train connects the main points of the town to the village: this is useful as the historic center streets are uphill and parking in the immediate vicinity is limited.
