Handmade pasta from the Tuscia region celebrated in the Farnese village
In the summer of 2026, the event calendar of Caprarola, in the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia region, is enriched with a new appointment dedicated to taste: the first edition of the Pici Festival. The event takes place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, starting at 7:30 PM, along the central Via Filippo Nicolai, one of the main arteries of the Farnese village in the province of Viterbo, Lazio.
The undisputed stars of the evening are pici, long, thick strands of fresh, handmade pasta made with water, flour, and salt, without eggs. They are the emblem of peasant cuisine in a territory straddling Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio: in the Tuscia region, this preparation takes on different names from town to town, from Viterbo's lombrichelli to Umbrian strangoli. In Caprarola, pici are enjoyed with simple and flavorful sauces, from the classic aglione (garlic sauce) to meat ragรน, following a humble yet characterful recipe.
The festival is organized by the Caprarola Merchants' Association and transforms Via Filippo Nicolai into a long open-air table, where residents and visitors can sit together to savor this iconic dish. It is an opportunity to experience the town's historic center in a festive and convivial atmosphere, amidst food stalls and evening strolls through the village streets.
The Pici Festival is part of a rich program of events animating Caprarola from July 23 to September 1, 2026, featuring music festivals, theater, performances, and food and wine events. The town, famous throughout the province of Viterbo for the monumental Palazzo Farnese, a Renaissance masterpiece overlooking the Cimini Mountains, closes the summer season with the historic Hazelnut Festival. A new festival dedicated to pici thus adds a piece to the gastronomic vocation of this corner of Lazio.
