Experiential trekking in the Onferno Reserve, between silence and forest sounds
Per Sentieri in Valconca is a series of experiential treks conceived and organized by the association Malatempora APS, which each year guides hikers and the curious to discover Valconca, the valley of the Conca river that crosses the hilly hinterland of the province of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna. The stage held in the Municipality of Gemmano is one of the most evocative events of the calendar, hosted within the spectacular Onferno Oriented Nature Reserve.
The sixth edition revolves around the theme "Valconca in all senses": five thematic walks, from March to May, each dedicated to one of the five senses. The Gemmano stage is dedicated to hearing, with the title "Sounds in/of the Forest - A Walk to Hear Again!". The experience offers silent trekking: stretches of walking done in silence to retrain the ear to the natural sounds of the forest, too often drowned out by the noise of daily life.
The walk starts from the village of Onferno, in Via Ca' Bernardo, ascending into the Reserve's woods. It is a medium-difficulty itinerary:
The Onferno Reserve is famous for its gypsum caves, among the most important in Emilia-Romagna, and for the colony of bats that find refuge there, as well as for its characteristic badlands and the rich biodiversity of the forest.
At the end of the walk, a zero-km aperitif accompanied by an acoustic performance is planned, a convivial moment that combines the promotion of local products with mindful listening. The series combines hiking, land art, tastings, and meetings with local artisans, producers, and administrators, in collaboration with entities such as the Fondazione Piano Strategico di Rimini, the CAI Rimini, and the valley Municipalities.
More than just a hike, the Gemmano stage is an opportunity to experience the Valconca landscape slowly, rediscover the value of silence, and build community around walking. An experience suitable for nature lovers, sustainable tourism enthusiasts, and those seeking authentic emotions in the Romagna hinterland.
The fourth event of the 2026 calendar, the Gemmano stage was held on Sunday, May 10, 2026, starting at 3:00 PM from the village of Onferno, in Via Ca' Bernardo, within the Onferno Oriented Nature Reserve.
The route, approximately 10 km with a 400-meter elevation gain and lasting about 5 hours, was dedicated to the sense of hearing with the title "Sounds in/of the Forest - A Walk to Hear Again!". The core of the experience was silent trekking, with stretches walked in silence to rediscover the natural sounds of the forest.
Upon return, a zero-km aperitif with an acoustic performance concluded the day, confirming the experiential and convivial format that characterizes Malatempora APS's series.
The starting point is the Onferno Oriented Nature Reserve, in Via Ca' Bernardo, hamlet of Gemmano (RN). By car, you can reach it from the SS16 Adriatica, exiting towards the hinterland in the direction of Morciano di Romagna and then Gemmano. The nearest train station is Riccione or Cattolica, on the Adriatic line.
Participation is free with mandatory booking via an online form on the Malatempora APS website. Places are limited and editions often sell out in advance.
Trekking shoes, layered clothing, water, and sun protection are recommended. The route involves approximately 400 meters of elevation gain: good basic physical condition is advised.
