About Pejo Skialp under the Stars

Pejo Skialp under the Stars is the winter event dedicated to night ski mountaineering in Val di Peio, in the heart of the Stelvio National Park. On two evenings in March, the slopes of the Pejo 3000 Ski Area—ungroomed but well-packed and marked—open up to skinning enthusiasts. Participants can climb safely from 6:00 PM to 9:45 PM, guided by the light of their headlamps, before descending back to the valley under the starry sky of the Trentino Alps.

Night ski mountaineering in Val di Peio

Pejo Skialp under the Stars is the initiative that, every winter, transforms the slopes of the Pejo 3000 Ski Area into a playground for ski mountaineering enthusiasts. Set in the municipality of Peio, in Val di Sole, within the Stelvio National Park (Autonomous Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), the event allows you to climb the tracks with climbing skins in a unique atmosphere: that of the Alpine night, illuminated only by headlamps and the stars.

Dedicated slopes

During the evenings, three tracks are reserved for safe ascent: Mezoli, Tarlenta, and Doss dei Gembri. The slopes are not lit but are regularly groomed and marked with specific signs at the start and along the entire route, guiding ski mountaineers during both the ascent and the subsequent descent.

Hours and safety

The evenings take place from 6:00 PM to 9:45 PM: returning to the valley is mandatory by 9:45 PM to allow for the mechanical grooming of the slopes starting at 10:00 PM. Safety is guaranteed by the presence of specialized staff, but personal equipment remains essential. The use of a headlamp (always on) and a helmet during the descent is mandatory; it is also recommended to carry an avalanche safety kit (transceiver, shovel, and probe), technical clothing suitable for the cold, and a mobile phone. During the ascent and descent, keep to the right, follow only the marked paths, and moderate your speed.

Mountain huts

For a break or refreshments during the evening, the mountain huts Lo Scoiattolo and the renovated Doss dei Gembri remain open, providing warm spots from which to enjoy the night view of the Pejo 3000 area.

A winter staple

Proposed year after year by the Val di Sole, Peio and Rabbi Tourist Board together with Pejo Funivie, the initiative is now a classic of the Val di Peio winter calendar. In a high-mountain setting protected as the Stelvio National Park, Pejo Skialp under the Stars combines sport, nature, and safety, offering experienced ski mountaineers and beginners the chance to experience the magic of night climbing with skins.

Pejo Skialp under the Stars — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of Pejo Skialp under the Stars took place on Tuesday, March 3, and Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:45 PM on the slopes of the Pejo 3000 Ski Area. Two evenings of safe night ski mountaineering on the Mezoli, Tarlenta, and Doss dei Gembri tracks, within the Stelvio National Park.

For the 2026 winter season, Pejo Skialp under the Stars returned with two evenings, Tuesday, March 3 and 10, from 6:00 PM to 9:45 PM. Ski mountaineers were able to climb the three dedicated tracks—Mezoli, Tarlenta, and Doss dei Gembri—using climbing skins on ungroomed but well-packed and marked trails. Returning to the valley was required by 9:45 PM to allow for nightly slope grooming. A headlamp (always on) and a helmet for the descent were mandatory, along with an avalanche safety kit (transceiver, shovel, and probe).
