Three days of rustic flavors, porchetta, and Maremma traditions in Allumiere
In the village of Allumiere, set among the Tolfa Mountains in the province of Rome, the Peasant Festival and Porchetta Feast is one of the most anticipated events of the summer. Organized by the historic Contrada La Bianca, the event takes place at the La Cavaccia Sports Field, transforming this corner of Lazio for three days into a large open-air dining hall, filled with the aromas of home-style cooking, music, and folk traditions.
The heart of the festival is the authentic local gastronomy. The undisputed queen is the famous porchetta, roasted according to the recipe passed down by the contrada, but the menu is a true triumph of traditional peasant dishes: white lasagne with mushrooms and asparagus, tonnarelli all'amatriciana, snails, the rustic acquacotta, and the inevitable fried doughnuts to end on a sweet note. All this is accompanied by wine and draft beer, in an atmosphere of genuine village conviviality.
Alongside the food, the festival offers a rich calendar of events. The opening evening is dedicated to the Night of the Buttero, a tribute to the traditions of the Lazio Maremma and the horsemen who have guarded these lands for centuries. The following days feature live concerts, DJ sets, two-wheel shows, and the challenges most felt by the community: the Peasant Trophy, a traditional knockout donkey race, and the Minipalio delle Contrade, which evokes the atmosphere of the famous Palio of Allumiere.
An ancient mining center known for the extraction of alum, from which it takes its name, Allumiere retains a strong identity linked to peasant life and the playful rivalries between the contrade. The Peasant Festival was born precisely to celebrate these rural roots and the community's bond with the land and field work. Participating means immersing yourself in an authentic festival, far from mass tourism circuits, where families, young people, and visitors from the entire district gather around the flavors and customs of the Municipality of Allumiere, in Lazio.
The 2026 edition, which coincides with the 11th Porchetta Feast, enlivens the La Cavaccia Sports Field in Allumiere from Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19.
