Four days of devotion, tradition, and entertainment in the heart of Atessa
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, from August 15th to 18th, the historic center of Atessa, in the province of Chieti, comes alive for the Patronal Festivals, a tradition rooted in the community's identity for over three hundred years. In the heart of the Abruzzo Ferragosto, the village dresses up with artistic illuminations that light up Piazza Garibaldi and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, guiding residents and visitors through four days of devotion, tradition, and spectacle.
Each day is dedicated to a sacred figure particularly dear to the people of Atessa:
The Patronal Festivals represent the most anticipated moment of the summer in Atessa and are part of a rich calendar of events promoted by the Municipality of Atessa, which offers dozens of appointments between July and August every year. Liturgical rites in honor of the patron saints are accompanied by concerts, shows, exhibitions, cultural walks, and initiatives for all ages, transforming the squares and alleys of the historic center into open-air stages.
Located in the province of Chieti, in the hilly hinterland of Abruzzo just a few kilometers from the Val di Sangro, Atessa is one of the most populous villages in the area and preserves a medieval historic center rich in churches, palaces, and evocative views. The Patronal Festivals offer the ideal opportunity to discover the town, its traditions, and its hospitality, in a festive atmosphere that blends the sacred and the profane in the true spirit of the Abruzzo Ferragosto.
The 2026 edition of the Patronal Festivals of Atessa is expected, as every year, during the Ferragosto period. As of today, the Municipality of Atessa has not yet published the final dates or the detailed program with artists and events. According to established tradition, the festivities are held from August 15th to 18th in the historic center, with celebrations in honor of Maria SS. Assunta, Saint Roch, the patron Saint Leucio, and Saint Emidius. For updates, it is recommended to consult the official channels of the Municipality and the portal viviatessa.it.
Atessa can be reached by car from the A14 motorway (Val di Sangro exit), continuing along the SS652 Fondovalle Sangro. The nearest train station is Atessa-Archi on the Sangritana line; the reference airport is Abruzzo-Pescara.
The events take place in the historic center of Atessa, particularly in Piazza Garibaldi, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, and Piazza Benedetti, from August 15th to 18th.
Participation in the festivities and concerts in the square is generally free.
