Two days of faith, tradition, and celebration in the heart of this Pescara village
In the heart of summer, the village of Alanno, in the province of Pescara, gathers to honor its three patron saints: San Biagio (the primary patron, whose liturgical feast falls on February 3rd), San Donato, and Sant'Emidio. The festivities are concentrated over two days in August and represent one of the most anticipated events in the local summer calendar, where faith blends with pure entertainment in an atmosphere of great community participation.
The core of the festival is religious: liturgical celebrations and the procession featuring the statues of the patron saints wind through the streets of the historic center, passing between ancient medieval walls and the two defensive towers that still define the village's skyline. Sant'Emidio, in particular, is traditionally invoked in Abruzzo as a protector against earthquakes, while San Biagio has been the protector of the Alanno community for centuries.
Alongside the devotional aspect, the Patronal Festivals showcase the village's most joyful and convivial side: concerts and musical performances in the square, illuminations decorating the streets, food stalls, and the traditional fireworks that close out the evenings. It is a time for locals and those returning to their hometown during the summer to reconnect, as well as an opportunity for visitors to discover an authentic Abruzzese village.
Perched on a hilltop at approximately 307 meters above sea level, Alanno overlooks the Pescara River valley and is a classic Abruzzese hill village with a medieval historic core. The Patronal Festivals are part of a rich summer calendar that includes food festivals, jousts, and musical events, reflecting the vitality of the popular traditions of this municipality in the Province of Pescara, Abruzzo. The organization is managed by the Comitato Feste Patronali Alanno.
The Alanno Patronal Festivals are confirmed for August 7 and 8, 2026, as indicated in the official summer events calendar of the Municipality of Alanno. Following established tradition, the two days will combine liturgical moments and the procession in honor of San Biagio, San Donato, and Sant'Emidio with festive activities: music in the square, illuminations, stalls, and a fireworks display.
At the moment, the detailed program—including service times, artist names, and side events—has not yet been made public. It will be released by the Comitato Feste Patronali Alanno and on the Municipality's social media channels in the weeks preceding the festival.
