The patronal festivities of Terlizzi in honor of the city's Protectress

The Madonna del Rosario Festival is the most heartfelt event of the year in Terlizzi, a town in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Puglia. The Virgin of the Rosary is venerated as the Protectress of the city, and her festivities, concentrated on the first weekend of October, involve the entire community in four intense days that blend faith, popular tradition, and entertainment.
The religious heart of the festival revolves around the Church of the Madonna del Rosario and the San Michele Arcangelo Co-Cathedral: from here, the Eucharistic celebrations begin, including the Solemn Pontifical Mass presided over by the Bishop of the diocese of Molfetta-Ruvo-Giovinazzo-Terlizzi, followed by the processions that carry the statue of the Virgin through the streets of the historic center.
Alongside the devotional aspect, the Terlizzi festival is famous for its civic pageantry. Artistic illuminations light up the streets, marching bands and fanfares accompany the processions, while firework displays mark the highlights of the days. The absolute symbol of the festival is the floral float, a monumental work entirely covered in flowers that parades through the crowd, renewing the city's floricultural vocation, as it has always been one of the main centers of the Apulian flower industry.
One of the most moving moments is the symbolic handing over of the city keys to the Madonna by the Mayor during the procession, a gesture that seals the bond between the civil community and its Protectress. In Piazza Cavour, major evening concerts are held, while Corso Garibaldi and Corso Dante host the fair with stalls, a funfair, and gastronomic specialties.
Organized by the Madonna del Rosario Festival Committee with the support of the Municipality of Terlizzi, the event attracts worshippers and visitors from all over the Province of Bari and Puglia. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the historic center of Terlizzi, its churches, and its floral tradition, immersed in the warm atmosphere of one of the most well-attended patronal festivals in the region.
The 2026 Madonna del Rosario Festival will return to Terlizzi with its usual program of liturgical celebrations, processions, floral float, bands, illuminations, firework displays, and concerts in Piazza Cavour. At the moment, the dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizing committee. The festival is usually held on the first weekend of October: the final calendar and concert line-up will be published in the months leading up to the event.
