Four days of tradition, cuisine, and celebration in the heart of Arvier
The Patronal Feast of Saint Sulpitius is the most anticipated winter event in Arvier, a municipality in the upper Aosta Valley, in the province of Aosta. For four days, around the date of the patron saint, the village gathers in the pavilion set up next to the parish church for a celebration that combines the religious dimension with conviviality, following a tradition deeply rooted in the Aosta Valley communities.
The program alternates moments of games, gastronomy, and dancing. It begins with the card tournament (pinnacola and belotte), typical games of Aosta Valley social life, continues with evening dinners in the heated marquee—from mixed boiled meats with cotechino, potatoes, ratatouille, and minestrone to street food options—and with dancing evenings animated by popular music bands.
The most solemn moment is on Sunday, with the mass in the parish church of Saint Sulpitius. Afterwards, an aperitif accompanies the blessing of the conscripts' scarves, the young people of the same age group who, in Arvier as in many Aosta Valley villages, experience this community rite of passage together. The day concludes with lunch and an afternoon of cheerful tombola (bingo).
Organized by the Pro Loco of Arvier, the Feast of Saint Sulpitius is much more than a religious observance: it is the time when the village, in the midst of winter, comes together around its identity, its local cuisine, and the pleasure of being together.
From January 15 to 18, 2026, Arvier celebrated its patron saint Saint Sulpitius with the usual four-day program organized by the Pro Loco. The festival opened on Thursday evening with the card tournament, continued with evening dinners in the heated pavilion and dancing evenings, and concluded on Sunday with the mass, the blessing of the scarves for the 2008 conscripts, lunch, and the tombola.
Arvier is located about 26 km from Aosta, along the SS26 state road towards Mont Blanc. Exit the A5 motorway at Aosta Ovest/Saint-Pierre, then take the SS26.
The card tournament and dinners are subject to a fee. Sunday lunch costs €30 for adults and €15 for children, with mandatory reservations. Dancing evenings have free admission.
