About Feast of Saint Sulpitius

Every January, Arvier, a village in the upper Aosta Valley, celebrates its patron saint, Saint Sulpitius, with four days of festivities blending faith, conviviality, and tradition. Between the card tournament, dinners featuring boiled meats and Aosta Valley specialties, dancing evenings, the solemn mass, and the blessing of the conscripts' scarves, the Pro Loco enlivens the village in the midst of winter with an event cherished by the entire community.

The Patron Saint of Arvier

The Patronal Feast of Saint Sulpitius is the most anticipated winter event in Arvier, a municipality in the upper Aosta Valley, in the province of Aosta. For four days, around the date of the patron saint, the village gathers in the pavilion set up next to the parish church for a celebration that combines the religious dimension with conviviality, following a tradition deeply rooted in the Aosta Valley communities.

Between Table and Tradition

The program alternates moments of games, gastronomy, and dancing. It begins with the card tournament (pinnacola and belotte), typical games of Aosta Valley social life, continues with evening dinners in the heated marquee—from mixed boiled meats with cotechino, potatoes, ratatouille, and minestrone to street food options—and with dancing evenings animated by popular music bands.

The Mass and the Conscripts

The most solemn moment is on Sunday, with the mass in the parish church of Saint Sulpitius. Afterwards, an aperitif accompanies the blessing of the conscripts' scarves, the young people of the same age group who, in Arvier as in many Aosta Valley villages, experience this community rite of passage together. The day concludes with lunch and an afternoon of cheerful tombola (bingo).

A Community Celebration

Organized by the Pro Loco of Arvier, the Feast of Saint Sulpitius is much more than a religious observance: it is the time when the village, in the midst of winter, comes together around its identity, its local cuisine, and the pleasure of being together.

Feast of Saint Sulpitius — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Patronal Feast of Saint Sulpitius took place in Arvier from Thursday, January 15 to Sunday, January 18, in the pavilion set up next to the parish church. Four days featured a card tournament, themed dinners, dancing evenings with Eporadio and I Ragazzi del Villaggio, a solemn mass, the blessing of the scarves for the 2008 conscripts, and a concluding tombola.
