The patron saints and Our Lady of Constantinople, Mother of the Suffering, in the heart of Cellole

The Patronal Feast of Saint Mark, Saint Vitus and Our Lady of Constantinople is the most cherished event of the year for Cellole, a town in the Alto Casertano region overlooking the Gulf of Gaeta in Campania. For several days, typically in the first half of June, the entire community unites around its heavenly protectors in a blend of popular faith, tradition, and civic celebration that engages all generations.
Devotion in Cellole centers on three main figures. Saint Mark the Evangelist, author of the second Gospel, and Saint Vitus the Martyr, invoked for centuries as a protector against illness and a symbol of purity and courage, are the town's patron saints. Alongside them is the deep veneration for the Most Holy Mary of Constantinople, housed in the diocesan sanctuary of the same name, revered as the Mother of the Suffering and specifically invoked as the protector of cancer patients. It is no coincidence that Cellole loves to call itself the "City of Mary".
The religious heart of the festival is the solemn procession that winds through the town center on Sunday morning with the statues of the patrons, accompanied by a brass band, choirs, and hundreds of faithful, concluding with Holy Mass at the Sanctuary. A highly anticipated moment is the distribution of blessed bread, an ancient gesture that renews the bond between the community and its saints each year. Liturgical celebrations mark the days, blending the spiritual dimension with festive conviviality.
Alongside the sacred events, the patronal feast offers a rich civic program that enlivens Piazza Aldo Moro and Piazza Compasso. In recent editions, Cellole has hosted free concerts featuring well-known names from the Italian and Neapolitan music scene, comedy shows, folk performances, and dance eveningsโfrom the rhythms of the traditional bottari to entertainment for children. The experience is completed by food stalls serving local specialties, craft markets, and the grand finale fireworks display that lights up the sky over the Alto Casertano.
More than just a religious observance, the patronal feast is a moment of collective gathering for Cellole, drawing back emigrants and visitors from the nearby Domitian coast. It is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the province of Caserta, defined by popular devotion, Campanian hospitality, and traditional local flavors.
The 2026 edition of the Cellole patronal feast is expected, as per tradition, in the first half of June. As of now, no official program or definitive confirmation of dates has been published by the Santi Marco e Vito Parish or the Municipality of Cellole.
Following the pattern of previous years, the key moments of the festival are anticipated: the solemn procession with the statues of the patrons, Holy Mass at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Constantinople, the distribution of blessed bread, and evenings in the square featuring free concerts, food stalls, and the final fireworks display. The detailed program will be communicated by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Religious celebrations are held at the Diocesan Sanctuary of Our Lady of Constantinople (Church of Saint Mark), in Piazza Aldo Moro, Cellole (CE). Civic events are concentrated between Piazza Aldo Moro and Piazza Compasso.
