On August 7th, Montemiletto honors its patron saint with a procession, brass bands, and festive celebrations in the town square
Every year, on August 7th, the Municipality of Montemiletto, in the province of Avellino, pauses to pay tribute to its patron saint, Saint Cajetan of Thiene. It is the most anticipated day of the Montemiletto summer: the streets of the historic center light up with illuminations, celebrations in the mother church mark the hours of the day, and the entire community gathers around the sacred image of the saint. This is not an isolated event, but the most defining moment of a three-month-long summer: the patronal feast is, in fact, part of the Estate Insieme program, a series of events promoted by the municipal administration that brings the town to life from July to September.
Saint Cajetan of Thiene, founder of the Theatine Order, is commemorated in the liturgical calendar on August 7th and is venerated throughout Southern Italy as the protector of Providence and labor. In Montemiletto, devotion to the saint is deeply rooted: his feast marks the town's calendar and attracts emigrants and families who return during these days, making the occasion a moment of reunion as well as faith.
The structure of the feast follows a tradition consolidated over the years: in the days leading up to August 7th, preparatory masses are held, while the patronal day begins with morning celebrations, continues with a solemn mass, and culminates in the procession with the sacred image of Saint Cajetan, which travels through the streets of the town in the evening, accompanied by the band, the faithful, and the committees.
After the religious portion, the festivities move outdoors and become a spectacle for all: Piazza IV Novembre, overlooking the Castello della Leonessa, serves as the natural stage for Montemiletto's evenings, featuring concerts, illuminations, and the traditional brass band parade.
The hallmark of the Montemiletto patronal feast is brass band music, the authentic heart of Southern Italian festivals. For the 2026 edition, the 'Città di Montemiletto' Brass Band, the local ensemble, and the 'Noicattaro' Grand Concert Band, a prestigious Apulian ensemble in the touring band circuit, are announced. The bandstands, the lyrical-symphonic programs performed in the square, and the processional marches are an intangible heritage still proudly passed down in Montemiletto.
The patronal feast takes place at the peak of Estate Insieme. In 2026, the eve of August 6th brings the Elettra Lamborghini concert to Piazza IV Novembre with her Bilaterale Tour, while in the following days the calendar continues with Notti sotto le Stelle (Nights Under the Stars) in the Torricella area (August 11th and 12th), All'Ombra del Castello (In the Shadow of the Castle), the b'Allerìa concert on Ferragosto, Viale in Festa on August 16th, and the Dinosaur Village for children. In September, the Montemiletto summer concludes with the historical re-enactment Si Qua Fata Sinant and the celebrations for Saint Eustace the Martyr in the Montaperto hamlet.
Located in the hinterland of Campania, in the province of Avellino, Montemiletto is a village of just over five thousand inhabitants dominated by the Castello della Leonessa, which defines its skyline and acts as a scenic backdrop for summer events. Its position, in the heart of Irpinia, makes the town a natural stop for those traveling from the plains toward the wine-growing hills and the villages of the Campanian hinterland.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Cajetan of Thiene feast is celebrated on Friday, August 7th in Montemiletto, in the province of Avellino. The municipal administration has included the event in the Estate Insieme 2026 calendar, presented at the beginning of July, which covers the entire summer period from July 4th to September 20th.
Two ensembles are announced for the patronal day: the 'Città di Montemiletto' Brass Band, representing the town, and the 'Noicattaro' Grand Concert Band, an Apulian band with a long tradition. The concert in the square is the most anticipated moment of the civil part of the feast.
The eve, Thursday, August 6th, is dedicated to the big pop event of the Montemiletto summer: the Elettra Lamborghini concert with her Bilaterale Tour, scheduled at 9:30 PM in Piazza IV Novembre. In the following days, the program continues with Notti sotto le Stelle in the Torricella area (August 11th and 12th), All'Ombra del Castello, the b'Allerìa concert on August 15th, and Viale in Festa on August 16th.
