The handmade pasta festival in the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia region
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia, the Pasta and Culture Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in Civita Castellana, in the province of Viterbo. Organized by the local Pro Loco, the festival transforms the historic center for three days into a journey of taste, music, and tradition, attracting visitors from all over Lazio and neighboring Umbria.
The undisputed star is, of course, the handmade pasta, served at food stalls set up along the streets of the center. Visitors can savor specialties of Faliscan and Lazio cuisine such as rabbit pappardelle, wild boar pappardelle, farfallette all'amatriciana, fettuccine rolled out with a rolling pin, and the classic cacio e pepe, accompanied by frittelloni, snails, artisanal desserts, and street food options.
As the name suggests, the festival is not just about gastronomy. The squares and courtyards of the center, from Piazza Matteotti to the Bishop's Curia Courtyard, host craft markets, collectibles, and local products, while the famous Civitonica ceramics are showcased with the traditional ceramic fishing game. Among the most evocative events are the Historical Tournament of the Four Gates Archers and the donkey race, which bring the folklore and history of the city back to life.
Every evening is enlivened by live concerts and performances in the square: past editions have featured Italian pop artists and local ensembles, alongside sports exhibitions, vintage car and motorcycle rallies, and activities for families and children. Admission to the event is free, while tastings are paid for at individual stalls.
Situated on a tuff spur between the gorges of the Treja river, Civita Castellana is the ancient capital of the Falisci and holds treasures such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore, with its Cosmatesque portico, Forte Sangallo, and the Agro Falisco Museum. During the festival, many of these places are open to visitors, making the event an opportunity to discover the historical and artistic heritage of this corner of the Lazio Region.
Now in its tenth edition, the Pasta and Culture Festival is the result of the work of the Pro Loco of Civita Castellana volunteers and has over the years obtained the patronage of the Lazio Region, the Province of Viterbo, the Municipality of Civita Castellana, and the Viterbo Chamber of Commerce. An appointment that combines authentic flavors, local identity, and conviviality.
The Pasta and Culture Festival returns to Civita Castellana, in the province of Viterbo, for a new edition at the end of June 2026. As per tradition, the event organized by the Pro Loco offers tastings of handmade pasta, craft markets, live concerts, and historical re-enactments in the heart of the Viterbo Tuscia.
Civita Castellana is located in the province of Viterbo, in northern Lazio. By car, it can be reached via the SS3 Flaminia or the A1 motorway (Magliano Sabina or Orte exits). By train, the Rome-Viterbo railway connects the city to the capital.
The event takes place in the historic center, with its hub in Piazza Matteotti and the surrounding streets.
Free admission. The food stalls offer dishes at popular prices; on busier evenings, a little patience for tables is recommended.
