A food-tasting walk along the trails of the Garfagnana
PasseggianMangiando is the annual June event that transforms the trails around Magliano, a village in the municipality of Sillano Giuncugnano (Province of Lucca, Tuscany), into a journey through nature, tradition, and fine food. The concept is simple yet brilliant: hike a loop trail in the heart of the Garfagnana and stop at various stations to taste local products prepared by regional associations and businesses.
The route follows the paths of the former municipality of Giuncugnano, passing through forests, small villages, mule tracks, and panoramic views of the Apennines. The walk is designed to be accessible to everyone, with some editions offering a shorter, flatter alternative ideal for families. Along the way, you will encounter landmarks that tell the story of the area, from village churches to traces of the Via Francigena and remnants of mountain life.
The true highlight of the event is the gastronomic stops scattered along the route. At each station, participants can enjoy traditional Garfagnana dishes and products—from appetizers and main courses to desserts—all prepared by local restaurants, pizzerias, bars, and associations. The walk thus becomes a culinary journey through the Apennines, defined by the festive and convivial atmosphere that is the hallmark of the event.
PasseggianMangiando is organized by the Circolo Arci La Giunchiglia of Magliano in collaboration with the Municipality of Sillano Giuncugnano, the Ponticulus Association, ASBUC Giuncugnano, Pro Loco Magliano, the Union of Garfagnana Municipalities, and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park. It is a grassroots event born from the community's desire to showcase their territory, trails, and flavors, welcoming hikers and curious visitors from the Serchio Valley and beyond.
The 2026 edition of PasseggianMangiando was held on Sunday, June 14, starting and finishing at the Colonia di Magliano, in the municipality of Sillano Giuncugnano. The 13 km loop trail crossed the paths of the upper Garfagnana, in the heart of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park.
Along the way, six tasting stops were set up, managed by local associations and businesses, where participants could savor typical local dishes and products in a festive and convivial atmosphere.
In case of bad weather, the walk was postponed to Monday, June 15, 2026.
Registration: online by June 10 (8:00 PM) and at authorized retailers by June 12.
