A festival that smells of freshly baked bread

Pane Pizza e Nostalgia is the annual summer event that brings the authentic flavors of Lazio's rural tradition back to Colfelice, a village in the Ciociaria area near Frosinone. Organized by the Municipality of Colfelice as part of the ColfelicEstate summer program and the regional project 'Il Lazio delle Meraviglie', the festival was created to highlight and preserve the vitality of local craftsmanship, which has always been deeply rooted in agricultural work and bread-making.

Bread: an identity spanning over eighty years

In Colfelice, bread is more than just food; it is a symbol. The village bakeries have been renowned throughout the region for over eighty years, and this festival pays tribute to this craft, passed down through generations. During the event, ancient traditions come back to life, bringing back the flavors, scents, and colors of the past—a time when the lives of men and women were defined by the fields, and harvests, grape picking, or gathering olives and mushrooms were occasions for celebration and community.

Pizza, tastings, and conviviality

Alongside bread, the absolute star is pizza in its many traditional Ciociarian variations, baked on the spot and served with flatbreads, local products, and genuine specialties. The evenings come alive with food stalls, glowing ovens, and long tables in the square, creating a joyful atmosphere that brings residents and visitors together. The 'nostalgia' that gives the festival its name is the longing for simple, authentic flavors that evoke memories of grandmother's cooking and the ancient rhythms of village life.

The festival is also the perfect opportunity to explore Colfelice, a small town of just over 1,800 inhabitants nestled in the hills of the Liri Valley, a short distance from Roccasecca, Arce, and the Abbey of Montecassino.
