The spring fair on Palm Sunday featuring market stalls, street food, and the medieval castle of Pozzolo Formigaro
The Palm Sunday Fair is one of the most cherished events in the calendar of Pozzolo Formigaro, a town in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of the Novese region of Piedmont. Held on the weekend of Palm Sunday, one week before Easter, it marks the official start of the spring season. It is a genuine village festival that draws visitors from all the surrounding towns to the village's landmark: the imposing medieval castle that overlooks Piazza Castello.
The event, organized by the Pro Loco Pozzolese in collaboration with the Municipality and the Tourism Department, spans two days. Saturday evening transforms Piazza Castello into a lively gastronomic village dedicated to street food, while Sunday is the main event, with the town streets bustling from the morning with stalls, scents, and attractions.
The signature dish of the fair is the agnolotti prepared by the Pro Loco Pozzolese according to the traditional recipe. The Pro Loco has been awarded the "Sagra di Qualità " (Quality Festival) mark by UNPLI (National Union of Pro Loco of Italy) for its agnolotti festival, a recognition that testifies to the authenticity and care of the village's culinary offerings.
Among the most popular activities is the extraordinary opening of the medieval castle, with guided tours led by Pro Loco volunteers and young members of the town council. For children, there are rides, inflatables, and pony rides, while local associations offer games, sports, and activities. A day that combines tradition, community, and fun, all in the spirit of the Pozzolo identity.
The 2026 edition of the Palm Sunday Fair was held on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29 in Pozzolo Formigaro, confirming its status as one of the most popular spring events in the Novese area, with record numbers especially during the street food evening.
Organized by the Pro Loco Pozzolese together with the Municipality and the Tourism Department, the event animated the historic center for two days with gastronomy, crafts, nurseries, and culture, with the extraordinary opening of the medieval castle as the most anticipated moment.
Piazza Castello transformed into a lively gastronomic village dedicated to street food, filled with lights and colors. On the menu: traditional agnolotti, mixed fried food, fried dough with cold cuts and cheeses, fried fish and skewers, gourmet burgers and sandwiches, and desserts. The evening was accompanied by live music from the band Skinny Jeans.
Pozzolo Formigaro is located in the province of Alessandria, in the Novese area. By car, it is easily accessible from the A7 motorway (Milan-Genoa) and the A26; by train, the nearest station is Novi Ligure, just a few kilometers away.
The fair takes place on the weekend of Palm Sunday (one week before Easter), between Saturday evening and Sunday.
Admission to the fair is free. Given the high turnout, it is advisable to arrive early in the morning to find parking easily in the town center areas.
