The Olympic distance challenge on the Lido di Ostia seafront
The Ostia Olympic Triathlon is one of the most popular races in the Lazio triathlon calendar. Every autumn, the Lido di Ostia seafront, a seaside district of Rome, transforms into the stage for a complete Olympic-distance test: 1.5 km of swimming in the Tyrrhenian Sea, 40 km of road cycling, and a 10 km run, totaling 51.5 kilometers that demand endurance, technique, and efficient transition management.
The event is organized by ASD 3.4 Fun (Nero Rosso Team) and is dedicated to the memory of Egidio Cristofoletti, a key figure in the local triathlon movement. The race is part of the FITRI (Italian Triathlon Federation) circuit and is a staple of the Lazio regional calendar, attracting registered athletes from across the region and beyond.
The swimming leg takes place in the waters off the beach, near the Punta Ovest area, along the Lungomare Amerigo Vespucci. After the swim, athletes tackle the cycling segment on a flat, fast coastal circuit, followed by a run along the shoreline. The seaside setting, with its salty air and the still-warm October sun, provides a stunning backdrop, made even more engaging by the public cheering from the promenade.
In addition to the individual race, the Ostia Olympic Triathlon offers a relay format, allowing teams of three to split the swimming, cycling, and running legs. It is an ideal way for those looking to experience triathlon without tackling the full distance solo, and it helps create a festive, inclusive atmosphere.
The Ostia Olympic Triathlon blends sport with the local territory, bringing the discipline to one of the most iconic seaside spots for Romans. For spectators, it is a chance to watch a spectacular race for free, while for athletes, it represents a key milestone in the autumn season, when sea and air temperatures still allow for favorable racing conditions on the Lazio coast.
The new edition of the Ostia Olympic Triathlon - Egidio Cristofoletti Memorial will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026, on the Lungomare Amerigo Vespucci, at Lido di Ostia (Rome). The race confirms the Olympic distance with a 1.5 km sea swim, 40 km of road cycling, and a 10 km run along the coast, in addition to the relay format for teams.
The event, organized by ASD 3.4 Fun and part of the FITRI circuit, begins with administrative operations and the setup of the transition area in the morning, followed by the start of the race legs. Registrations are handled via the NextRace platform: it is recommended to book early as race packs are guaranteed only to the first registrants.
Lido di Ostia is connected to central Rome by the Roma-Lido railway (Lido Centro and Lido Nord stations). By car, it can be reached via the Via del Mare or Via Cristoforo Colombo; parking is available along the coastal roads near the seafront.
Registrations are managed via the NextRace platform ([email protected]) with a copy sent to the organizing secretariat ([email protected]). Race packs are guaranteed to early registrants; early booking is recommended.
Bring a wetsuit, road bike, and a helmet approved according to FITRI regulations. Participation requires a federation membership or a valid competitive medical certificate. The public can watch the race for free from the seafront.
