Piano music in the most evocative settings of the Orbetello Lagoon
The Orbetello Piano Festival is one of the most evocative piano events in Tuscany. Every summer, it transforms the iconic landmarks of the town of Orbetello, in the heart of the Maremma lagoon in the province of Grosseto, into open-air stages where the sound of the piano dialogues with water, nature, and history. Conceived by artistic director Giuliano Adorno and Beatrice Piersanti for the Kaletra Cultural Association, the festival has grown into an international event, closely linked to the Orbetello Piano Competition, which attracts over 150 young pianists from all over the world to the Tuscan town every spring.
In 2026, the festival celebrates its 15th edition with a program running from June 19 to August 6. The schedule alternates winners and finalists of the Competition with acclaimed performers, in a journey that traverses the great Romanticism of Chopin and Liszt, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, works by Schumann and Prokofiev, and the suspended atmospheres of Satie and Philip Glass.
The strength of the Orbetello Piano Festival lies in its unusual spaces, each with a distinct identity:
Among the most beloved events is the sunrise concert, which invites the audience to listen to the piano at the first light of day, in the silence of the natural oasis.
The festival is not just a concert season, but a cultural project that intertwines advanced training and regional promotion. Thanks to the link with the Orbetello Piano Competition, awarded young talents have the opportunity to perform before an audience in a professional context, while the festival helps promote Orbetello and the Maremma as a destination of cultural excellence. A formula that combines interpretive excellence, discovery of the lagoon landscape, and attention to environmental protection, in collaboration with the Municipality of Orbetello and local organizations.
The fifteenth edition opens on Friday, June 19 at 7:45 PM with the "Romantic Encores" preview at the Botanical Dry Garden, featuring Giovanni Gnocchi on cello and Alessandro Stella on piano. The program continues from mid-July until the grand finale on August 6, alternating between the Polveriera Guzman and the WWF lagoon oases.
Many performers are winners and finalists of the Orbetello Piano Competition, which took place in the spring, attracting over 150 young pianists from around the world.
Orbetello is located in the Maremma area of Grosseto, in Tuscany. By car: take the Aurelia (SS1) exit for Orbetello. By train: Orbetello-Monte Argentario station on the Rome-Pisa line, just a few minutes from the center. The nearest airport is Rome-Fiumicino.
Some concerts are free, others require a ticket; season tickets for the entire festival are available. For information and phone bookings, call +39 389 2428801 or visit the official website orbetellopianofestival.it.
Concerts in the WWF oases and the sunrise concert take place in natural settings: comfortable clothing and advance booking are recommended, given the limited capacity of the venues.
