The Bolognese Hills open their doors to visitors: two days of wineries, walks, culture, and flavors
Open Weekend Colli Bolognesi is the event that, every spring, transforms the hills south of Bologna into a large, widespread itinerary to be discovered on foot, on horseback, or with a glass in hand. For a weekend in April, the five municipalities of Casalecchio di Reno, Monte San Pietro, Sasso Marconi, Valsamoggia, and Zola Predosa offer over thirty free or reservation-based initiatives designed to showcase the excellences of the Bolognese Hills territory.
The Municipality of Sasso Marconi, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna), plays a leading role. Here, visitors can participate in guided excursions to discover the valley's nature, reach the Oasis of San Gherardo for ornithological visits and birdwatching, or ascend to Villa Griffone, home of the Marconi Museum, where Guglielmo Marconi conducted his first experiments on radio waves. Among the most evocative offerings is the excursion leading to the so-called Fantini vine, one of the rare centuries-old vine plants in the area.
The strength of Open Weekend lies in its variety. The program brings together different worlds:
The event is the result of the work of volunteers from the "Reno Lavino Samoggia" Pro Loco Network, in collaboration with the teachers and students of the tourism program at the "Gaetano Salvemini" Economic Technical Institute in Casalecchio di Reno, who contribute to building the program each year. It is a territory-wide event that enhances a hilly area rich in history, vineyards, and biodiversity just a few kilometers from the center of Bologna.
Many activities are free, while others require booking due to limited spaces. The detailed program, updated for each edition, is published on the official portal collinebolognaemodena.it, where you can consult schedules, meeting points, and access procedures for each initiative.
The seventh edition of the Open Weekend Colli Bolognesi was held on Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 2026, confirming the widespread format involving the five municipalities of the Bolognese Hills.
The 2026 program featured over thirty initiatives, free or by reservation, put together by volunteers from the "Reno Lavino Samoggia" Pro Loco Network along with teachers and 36 students from the tourism program at the "Gaetano Salvemini" Economic Technical Institute in Casalecchio di Reno.
Over thirty initiatives spread across the municipalities of Casalecchio di Reno, Monte San Pietro, Sasso Marconi, Valsamoggia, and Zola Predosa, with free access or by reservation.
The detailed program, with times and meeting points, is published on the official portal collinebolognaemodena.it.
Sasso Marconi is easily reachable from Bologna: by train on the Bologna-Porretta line (Sasso Marconi station), by car along the SS64 Porrettana, or via the A1 motorway (Sasso Marconi exit). Other initiatives take place in the municipalities of Casalecchio di Reno, Monte San Pietro, Valsamoggia, and Zola Predosa.
Activities are free or require booking depending on the event. It is advisable to consult the official program and book excursions and visits with limited capacity in advance.
