The historic summer fair of San Lazzaro di Savena, since 1830
The San Lazzaro Fair is one of the most deeply rooted summer events in the Bologna area. Approved by the city council on April 28, 1830, as a revival of an ancient livestock and goods fair, it was born as a true agricultural and zootechnical exhibition: an occasion where business, concluded with a handshake, was celebrated with good food and festivities. Over almost two centuries, the event has transformed into a large community gathering that blends commerce, culture, music, and gastronomy. In 2026, the fair will reach its 194th edition, confirming itself as one of the longest-running fairs in all of Emilia-Romagna.
The 2026 edition takes place from Thursday, July 30 to Sunday, August 2 in the heart of San Lazzaro di Savena, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Bologna located on the Via Emilia. The focal point of the fair is Piazza Bracci, around which various themed areas are distributed: Parco 2 Agosto with quality musical programming, the Corte del Palazzo Comunale which revives the historic Mocambo with music and dancing, and the Parco della Resistenza which hosts "ResisDance" with DJ sets, concerts, street food, and markets.
The San Lazzaro Fair is a multidisciplinary event designed for all types of audiences. Each year, the calendar offers:
One of the distinctive features of the fair is its connection with the Gessi Bolognesi and Calanchi dell'Abbadessa Regional Park, whose gypsum formations are part of the UNESCO heritage. During the event, trekking and excursions are organized to discover badlands, sinkholes, and caves, just a short walk from the town center. It is this blend of popular festival, food and wine, and nature that makes the San Lazzaro Fair an identity event for the community and an attraction for visitors to the Bologna area.
The 194th San Lazzaro Fair confirms the formula that has animated the city center for almost two centuries: live music, shows, food stalls, markets, and initiatives related to the territory. The four days are distributed across the usual event spaces — Piazza Bracci as the heart of the fair, Parco 2 Agosto for concerts, the Corte del Palazzo Comunale with the revival of Mocambo, and Parco della Resistenza with the "ResisDance" program. There are also food and wine offerings and the "Fiera Off" calendar with guided tours and tastings.
The detailed program for the 194th edition (concerts, artists, schedules, and "Fiera Off" initiatives) will be announced by the Municipality of San Lazzaro di Savena and the organization in the weeks preceding the event, on the official website and social media channels of the fair.
