Open Gardens / Tag der Gärten is the summer event that, for one weekend in July, transforms the village of Falzes/Pfalzen and its hamlet of Issengo/Issing into an open-air trail through private gardens. On this occasion, owners open the gates to their green spaces, inviting residents and tourists to wander among flowerbeds, well-tended vegetable patches, shady corners, and botanical arrangements designed to withstand the mountain climate of the Puster Valley.
Beyond the beauty of the gardens, the event showcases numerous local artistic crafts. Between one garden and the next, you will encounter wood sculptures, original decorations, paintings, and other creations by local artisans, making the visit an experience that blends nature discovery with a small, scattered art gallery.
Dining is an integral part of the festival: along the route, you can taste traditional South Tyrolean dishes and, above all, the "Breatl", the typical Puster Valley bread baked in ancient wood-fired ovens and served fresh from the oven. It is the perfect opportunity to savor the genuine flavors of mountain cuisine in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.
The event was born from the initiative of local associations and is promoted in collaboration with the Municipality of Falzes and the Tourismusverein Bruneck Kronplatz. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is that of a typical South Tyrolean village festival, where a sense of community intertwines with a love for gardening and hospitality.
Located in the Plan de Corones area, at the foot of the Dolomites, Falzes is known as the "sun village" of the Puster Valley. Its sunny position favors the growth of lush gardens, which take center stage during "Open Gardens." The event, which recurs every year in July, is a popular appointment for spending a day outdoors, immersed in the landscape and culture of South Tyrol.
The event takes place in the private gardens of Falzes/Pfalzen and the hamlet of Issengo/Issing, in the Puster Valley (Province of Bolzano), in the Plan de Corones area.
By car: from Brunico, you can reach Falzes in a few minutes by following the signs for Plan de Corones. By train: Brunico station on the Puster Valley line, then local bus. Nearest airports: Bolzano, Innsbruck, and Verona.
Admission is free. The event is typically held on a Saturday and Sunday in July, with gardens open throughout the day. We recommend checking the updated dates and times with the Municipality of Falzes or the Brunico Kronplatz tourist office (tel. +39 0474 555722).
