The world of bees with open doors

Open Apiaries is the day dedicated to beekeeping held in Calice al Cornoviglio, a municipality in the hinterland of the province of La Spezia, at the Mieleria Ribaditi in the hamlet of Santa Maria. The event is part of the national initiative promoted by UNAAPI (National Union of Italian Beekeepers Associations) on the occasion of World Bee Day, May 20th.

Honey extraction and tastings

During the day, visitors can witness honey extraction and taste hive products, discovering the secrets of an ancient and fundamental craft for the environment. Beekeeping, in fact, doesn't just produce honey: bees play a crucial role in pollination and the protection of biodiversity, themes at the center of this awareness day.

Ricotta and Doria Malaspina Castle

The experience is enriched by ricotta cheese production by Azienda Agricola Pizzacoste and a visit to the Doria Malaspina Castle, which overlooks the village of Calice al Cornoviglio. A journey that combines gastronomy, nature, and historical heritage, for a complete day in the upper Val di Vara.
