The grand annual festival of Ruvo di Puglia, blending faith, brass bands, and floral carpets
The Octave of Corpus Domini is the most important and anticipated event in the calendar of Ruvo di Puglia, a town in the Murgia hinterland of the Metropolitan City of Bari. For an entire octave, from June 6 to 15, 2026, the historic center transforms into a grand stage of faith and celebration, where religious rites, brass band traditions, and the ephemeral art of floral carpets merge into one of Puglia's most evocative celebrations.
The heart of the festival is the Co-Cathedral of Ruvo, a jewel of Apulian Romanesque architecture, around which the solemn Eucharistic celebrations and processions unfold. The streets of the center are lit up with artistic illuminations, while touring brass bands accompany the religious processions, filling the streets with marches and concerts. The Cassa Armonica (bandstand) in Piazza Matteotti becomes the stage for major brass ensembles, performing symphonic marches until late at night before a large and passionate audience.
A distinctive element of the Octave is the Eucharistic-themed infiorata (floral carpet) that covers the cathedral square: a hand-made floral tapestry that welcomes the passage of the Blessed Sacrament during the gala procession. Completing the festive atmosphere are the traditional launches of paper hot-air balloons, which color the sky above Ruvo, and evening shows of music, dance, and cabaret that animate the city squares.
Organized by the Patronal Feast Committee with the involvement of confraternities, the Pro Loco, and local musical associations, the Octave of Corpus Domini is much more than a religious anniversary: it is the moment when the entire local community gathers in the streets of the historic center, also drawing back many emigrant residents who return to town for the occasion. Faith, music, light, and conviviality intertwine in a festival that, year after year, renews the deep identity of Ruvo di Puglia.
The 2026 Octave of Corpus Domini brought Ruvo di Puglia to life from June 6 to 15 with a rich and varied program. The festival opened on Saturday, June 6, in Piazza Matteotti with the lighting of artistic illuminations and a "Drum Session in the Square," continuing on Sunday, June 7, with the solemn Eucharistic celebration in the Co-Cathedral and the first procession, accompanied by brass band concerts. The heart of the festival was Sunday, June 14, with the Grand Brass Band Concert and the Solemn Mass, followed by the gala procession amidst the floral carpet on the cathedral square and the launch of hot-air balloons. The grand finale took place on Monday, June 15, with the charity lottery draw and a comedy show in the square.
The celebrations are concentrated at the Co-Cathedral of Ruvo, in Piazza Matteotti, and along the streets of the historic center of Ruvo di Puglia (BA), postal code 70037, in the Puglia region.
Ruvo di Puglia can be reached by car via the SS98 and SP231 (formerly SS98 Andriese-Coratina); it is approximately 35 km from Bari. The Ruvo di Puglia train station is served by the Ferrotramviaria Bari-Barletta line.
Processions, brass band concerts, floral carpets, and square performances are free to attend.
