Swiss jazz by the Lea Maria Fries Quartet in the halls of Villa Caccia, blending music with local flavors
As part of NovaraJazz, the historic international festival that transforms Novara and its surrounding area into a vast sonic map every spring, the town of Romagnano Sesia, in the Province of Novara (Piedmont), hosts one of the most evocative stops of the tour. The concert takes place in the halls of the Bassa Valsesia Historical Ethnographic Museum, set within the 17th-century Villa Caccia, a refined historic residence overlooking the village.
The star of the event is the Lea Maria Fries Quartet, a group featured in the Swiss Focus program, the section that the 2026 edition dedicates to Swiss jazz productions. The voice and flair of Lea Maria Fries lead an ensemble that combines vocal research, contemporary composition, and improvisation, offering the Novara audience an original look at the new generation of Swiss jazz.
In keeping with the spirit of the festival, which intertwines sound, architecture, and gastronomy, the audience is invited to a tasting of typical local products at the end of the concert. A convivial moment that celebrates the food and wine excellence of the Bassa Valsesia and Novara areas, from the wines of the Novara Hills to traditional local flavors.
NovaraJazz is not a festival confined to a single location: beyond the city heart of the Cortile del Broletto, the event brings music to vineyards, historic villas, and villages across the Novara region, from Romagnano Sesia to Maggiora, from Oleggio to Cameri. The Villa Caccia concert embodies this itinerant vocation, capable of combining musical quality with the discovery of the historical and landscape heritage of the Rice Lands.
For the 2026 edition of NovaraJazz, the festival brought the Lea Maria Fries Quartet, a leading group of the Swiss Focus section, to Villa Caccia, home of the Bassa Valsesia Historical Ethnographic Museum. The quartet consisted of Lea Maria Fries (vocals), Gauthier Toux (piano), Julian Hernรฉ (double bass), and Antonio Paganotti (drums). The morning event, at 11:00 AM, concluded with a tasting of local products, in full alignment with the spirit of the widespread festival that unites music, heritage, and the gastronomy of the Novara region.
